in the beautiful town of Celles-sur-Belle is this magnificent building – l’abbaye Royale. In this image is also (another) Lavoir and the dominating Eglise Notre Dame.

A former Abbey from the XII century was partly destroyed during the wars of religion in 1568.Rebuilt during the second half of the seventeenth century by the architect Francis Duke of Tuscany, the two buildings form an architectural masterpiece!

We live in the West of France in the Poitou Charentes region, I love where we live and take a lot of inspiration for photography from the countryside and wonderful regions around us.

I have not had any formal training and just feel comfortable behind the lens, enjoying the feeling of liberty and fun that is to be had with a camera.

Like the lead in to the Abbey and detail in the stonework.

  • Thank you Stephen – I was trying to capture the church and Abbey in the same photo along with the Lavoir – I feel I must go back and see if I can do a little better though! Sorry for missing this comment before now!

I enlarged this to see the fuller scene. I so wish you could take some of the shrubbery from the for-ground . It is too harsh for the overall scene and disturbs the glorious bridge detail. Hope you’re not offended by my words, they are said with concern.
Yet, I would still love to see some of them in this beautiful feature.

  • Hi Col, of course I am not offended – gosh you would have to go a loong way to do that – as you know I appreciate critique and I agree with you! THIS IMAGE is my fave one. I was trying to capture the Lavoir, Abbaye and church and those darn bushes were in the way!! I was up on the hill but you are right a tree would have been a really good idea ;) x
