A little way along from Le Chaboussant – Beauvoir I spotted some sort of Hut – I decided to look further – to my delight I found this old and delapidated Lavoir (wash house)- I am thrilled to have found this knowing that it has been here for a hundred years or so – I found some local history, I can’t imagine trailing across the field to get to this to do my washing as houses are quite far away – but then that’s what they did! After we left this area we spoke to a kindly elderly Frenchman who told us where Le Source is – I showed him this and he was very kind and said it is part of another source – merely a pond! I would have stood and chatted to him all day (he understood me and I understood his Patois accent!) it was a tad too chilly to stand around though, but we did find out he was born in the house just next door to us! Amazing :)

The Chaboussant circles Lezay starting at Le Source in Beauvoir travelling around Lezay and back to the pond at Beauvoir.

We live in the West of France in the Poitou Charentes region, I love where we live and take a lot of inspiration for photography from the countryside and wonderful regions around us.

I have not had any formal training and just feel comfortable behind the lens, enjoying the feeling of liberty and fun that is to be had with a camera.

“Thank you so much Colin as always :) I think we are on a par now for aged images :) have you seen my latest? Lavoir – sorry it’s another aged one ;D”

Thanks Pam for bring this one to my attention, as being on the other side of the planet, I tend to miss your new creation advertised.
And yes, I could live in that, though on second thoughts,…winter is still on in Paris.
Adding you experience with the elderly gentleman adds so much interest to the capture. I never knew these existed for the washing of clothes.
Great find, and especially an ‘old’ neighbour,..fantastic
Hugs from Colin and Belle xx

  • Thank you kindly Col :D I never knew this one existed, but they have been clearing the land around about! The old gentleman was lovely, hopefully we will come across him again someday! Yes it is quite cold here – we are about 400k away from Paris and in a slightly milder climate – being near the Gulf Stream! We are now hitting the heady heights of 12 degrees – but raining :( Love to you both = Pam x
