well as most of you know I am not really into “indoor set up shots” the only chance I have had of any sort of real portrait work was before christmas….with the event of Nanny Smiths Birthday we needed a present so out came the camera and not much pleading :0 taken with the canon 50mm lens and minimal lighting I have touched up a little in Paintshop 12 got rid of some teen blemishes and tried to work with what the lens had already produced as opposed to changing the photo completely :)

Chloe and Naomi 16 and 13

As this is my first real forray into portrait shots I appreciate your critique, hints etc.. I enjoyed myself as did the girls but I have to say we all found it rather strange as mostly we do outside posing or candids!

canon 400d with canon 50mm lens no flash fired

We live in the West of France in the Poitou Charentes region, I love where we live and take a lot of inspiration for photography from the countryside and wonderful regions around us.

I have not had any formal training and just feel comfortable behind the lens, enjoying the feeling of liberty and fun that is to be had with a camera.

I also have a FaceBook Page

  • Thank you kindly Catherine I have to say I like this one and the B&W but we need to choose just one for a canvas mount! only an 8×10 which we will do from home!! It’s got to be just right for Granny S and Granma!

A wonderful portrait PJ. Are these your junior expats?

  • Thank you Jamie :)) these are indeed the junior xps :) Chloe is the elder(is on here as well) and Naomi is the youngest this is the first time that I have not had to beg and pleade to do this and chloe even went so far as to put on a bit of the old lippy – that is unheard of!!

I like this one ….like the composition and the lovely warm lighting.

  • Hi Wendi – yes this is our fave too and we now await cartridges hopefully before the weekend so that we can mount it onto canvas the others were taken for printing yesterday can’t wait to see them in photo form it is so much better than the screen I feel!! This was without any extra lighting and no flash so I think no flash with that lens can work better indoors with minimum artificial light!
