This Old House
taken in May around our friends village after our 2 hour long walk and many photo opps – this lovely cottage/barn is owned by a chap that has grown up in it, and farms still, he has just recently had electric, water and a phone installed – over the last 3 years – doucement, doucement!! Also until recently he still had earth flooring in the kitchen which as been remedied now – a very normal story around here! He also has many goats and shares some of the house with the chickens! This type of house is also known as a Charentaise Long House :) and sometimes the shutters are painted in the typical blue Charante colour!

Absolutely stunning shot. I love all the textures and the whole feeling of the scene. Fabulous work and so interesting what you have written. I love the idea of earth flooring. Not much has changed in there for a couple of hundred years I guess. Lovely! Just Lovely.
Pamela Jayne S... replied
Thank you Bradley for your lovely comments! There are many houses like this around and the older generation that still live in them seem content enough!

This is an amazing shot…it is so hard to believe that people still live without modern conveniences…but he is probably very happy!!
Pamela Jayne S... replied
Thank you Dottie :) I can’t believe it but when our friends where showing us around their little village it was amazing how many houses are not modernised for living in to our “standards” but they are simple country folk!!

could be made beautiful., wondrous place. hugsxxx
Pamela Jayne S... replied
Hi Hilary – I am sure it could be made into something, or left to ruin there is not really a happy balance yet, I loved this house but the thought of what work needs to be done – not for us!!
Agnes McGuinness

Pam, you live in a lovely place. Great shot.
Pamela Jayne S... replied
We are right in the heart of the countryside Jamie and houses like this are all around! The ones the Brits haven’t bought up are looking like this! Or a heap of stone – the younger French generation are going for new builds as are the retirees if they are not in a maison de retraite by 60!

lovley shot the stone work shouts out at you. I like it that the shutters balnd so well with the house think the blue would look wrong on theis older building
Pamela Jayne S... replied
You are right Karen about the blue it is something that is done around our region tradtitionally but now any colour goes! Somewhere in the ‘folio is a house with blue but it looks right as the house is white and by the river!! I can’t think they would ever get the shutter done here though! Thank you for your comments :))
Taschja Hattingh
