Chateau de Verteuil

Chateau de Verteuil

sitting on the Charente river in Verteuil is this amazing privately owned chateau, set in the Vienne Department Poitou Charente

This Medieval château, in a triangular shape, dominates the Charente River and the picturesque village of Verteuil. Belonging to the La Rochefoucauld family for over 1000 years, Verteuil is just as fascinating for its architectural riches as for the history of its famous owners. Their celebrated and illustrious guests included Emperor Charles V of Spain, King Henri II, Queen Catherine de Medici and Queen Margot, Louis XIII, Anne d’Autriche and Marie de Medici!

Taken on a very cloudy and drizzly saturday afternoon with very poor lighting, on my Pentax optio M50

Chateau de Verteuil belongs to the following groups:

European Everyday Life (add the place!), Everyday Life, French Architecture , Heritage in Stone, History, Medieval Living History and Photographic France Available for sale as

Greeting Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints and Framed Prints

it is a beauty, I have tried to find out a little more history but it seems to be Frances’ best kept secret! Rumour has it that it has been funded by the French Government to keep it looking this good!

I’ve become a lot more conscious of that over recent months. I know photography can’t always be done in perfect, sunny conditions. But when it can be, that’s the time to get active and out there. Great natural lighting really pays off.
But there are so many hes in your scene here that helped make it look very nice, even if it was gray and overcast.

  • Pamela Jayne S... replied

Thank you James :) I suppose we all feel that a succesful photo is one full of colour, I do rather like it but it will be interesting to see the difference – without cheating!! Thank you for your considerate comments they are much appreciated :) AND I knew what you meant I read hues!!

I love the subtle colours here actually. The grey light gives a gentle quality to the scene.

Thank you jayview that is a really lovely comment :)

This is breathtakingly lovely. I wish I had a camera, and the ability to go places, because it would be nice to make paintings out of photos like this!

  • Pamela Jayne S... replied

Thank you Angel, for your comments, your faves and your time it is all much appreciated…..my Mum is the painter and I often pass on photos to her to copy, as sometimes an artists eye can portray such a different scene.

I love this shot! Despite the lack of sun, you captured the beautiful colours in such soft tones. A truly picturesque village.

  • Pamela Jayne S... replied

Thank you for your lovely comment :) the one good thing about this compact is the colours it captures! Still we will be going back on a sunnier day :))

Wonderful image, Pamela. I could walk that path, turn that corner or take those steps down to the river. Thanks for taking me there!
