I know the secrets of the Earth

I know the secrets of the earth,
Where fairies live, how fairies fly.
I know what a unicorn is,
And it rains when angels cry.

I know the secrets of the earth,
How four and four is eight.
I know you always share your toys,
And wait 35 to date.

I know the secrets of the earth,
How “Santa Claus” is your dad.
I know to never wear orange and blue,
And drugs are always bad.

I know the secrets of the earth,
How marriage isn’t fun and games.
To love your children, treat them well,
And give them proper names.

I know the secrets of the world,
How to spoil your grandkids.
Make sure to retire in Florida,
And for Christmas fly to Madrid.

I know the secrets of the world,
How to live a pleasant life.
Stop to smell the roses,
Cut back on stress and strife.

And this I share with you because,
I’ve lived the secrets, and know their worth.
Read this and maybe you can say,
“I know the secrets of the earth.”

Artist's Description

This was a prompt for my school’s writing club: The idea was to write a circle poem in which it starts with the same line, and ends with the same line—but at the end the speaker has to feel different about that line.
