I have just completed my first drawing for the new years, of an Australian artist/rocker friend who sent me 9 photos to draw from. My goal is complete enough drawings of Simon to complete a pencil drawing book solely on him.

If not, then I have several photos from others who are playing their guitars. So my question to you is: Do I complete a book on Simon alone, or draw the others to complete the book?

guitar, portrait, nude, pencil, male, graphite, vanderpool, figuire

Awesome drawing! I’d have to see the other guitarists to answer your question :) Although, I think it would be good to see other guitarists.
btw … does Simon play in a band?

  • Thanks. I tend to agree with you and others. It all depends on how the other drawings turn on

Simon has a page here on Redbubble, so I’ll let him answer that one.

Absolutely fantastic drawing David, i dunno how you do it but you always do!!
And that’s a tough question, depends how big his fan base is i suppose, are there enough fans who would want to buy a book just on him….if not then go for including the others too! Hope that helps :0)

  • Good point. I might reach more people interested in a book of various people than with one..

    Well Done David!
You have done an amazing job of capturing me, and although our styles are very different, it is interesting to see me drawn in a different perspective!
It definitely looks like me, and in this case, I’m your biggest critic! So feel proud of yourself!
It seems that most of the people want to see other guitarists in your book, and I feel sorry for you, I hate drawing guitars!!! – Damn I was looking forward to a book all about me ;)

Well done my friend, you have done me a great justice :)

  • Oh not to worry my friend…. you will get that book as promised!!! You have my work as a friend and fellow artist. The others will be drawn too!!! But the photos you shared are too awesome to pass up and the work needs to see then.

hey an artist friend suggested we make this a journal style book, with the both of us working on it. You and I. Your thoughts and views, some songs and music interests… but we will talk more on this soon! Privately.

Again thanks for the friendship and allowing me to draw you!

Hi David, I like this drawing although (I hope you don’t mind the comment) I would prefered it to have a little more definition. I find that having Simon blending in with the background a little disconcerting.
As for the book why not do both, I know it would be a incredible amount of work but hey if you have the material why not?

  • Thanks… and I welcome your comments and feedback so please be open and honest. Without them I cant grow!

I do plan on drawing more of him and your advice will be needed for the next ones. Thanks!
