Does anyone know of any call to entries or art galleries
Hey I need to get more of my work shown , so if anyone knows of any art shows coming up or galleries I should submit my work to please let me know.
I know I need to get some new and better pieces created and this might just be the motivation I need. My goal for this new year is to get back into working color and put together a few smaller pencil drawing books…. but its so ^%!*#*( discouraging to hear from galleries who say they love my work but then int he same breath ask me what else can I do. As if pencil drawings isn’t art?
Black and white realistic pencil drawings is what i do best, yet I am one step way from giving it all up!!
Are there no galleries or art shows that recognize black and white drawings or realistic traditional art any more? Is this the end of real art?

thanks… I just feel its a wasted effort at times!! I love to draw and get a great responses from friends such as yourself, and even some positive feedback respectable galleries or art dealers.. but I cant get past that! What am I doing wrong? Do I have to give up and take on abstract and colors to be seen?

David…belive me, in Russia nowbody needs my male nudes. The best offer for photographer here is to shoot female prostitutes. And kids maybe, but not super athlets that I do. Actually I’m still thinking about prostitutes as an interesting veriant very social and arty)))
SO, your b&w works are great and its really somthing that you do at your best. If you have any inrerest in doing coulour-im sure you’ll make it as good as waht you do now. Just abstract from commersial pressure, if you do it, you do it coz you want it, becouse you are an artist. Again, if you’ll do it, take it as a new challenge, make a brake from b&w-it want dissapear.
Galleries are having tuff times, so we have to understand them. Art is not dead, its just have to fight the crises.

hey, thanks my friend!~ I will take your advice to heart. Yes I need to take my work towards social issues…..Not to sure I’ll go the route of prostitutes, though….. life is a challenge enough explaining to my wife the men I draw… LOL
And I love the last line you write. Art is not dead…
Thanks.

We’ve had this discussion before, David, and as a fellow fan of the pencil you know my stance. I feel your pain, brother! lol
I don’t know of anywhere, I’m sorry.
As far as I’m concerned, your work is brilliant and deserves plenty of gallery space, but perhaps nowadays aesthetically brilliance isn’t enough.
I read your lead in here and started thinking that perhaps you should contrive a picture or two to see how it turns out….then I read what Vish has been saying and I agree with him.
Is there any chance of you hiring models and producing your own unique compositions, perhaps in a way that would resonate with a wider audience on social or personal issues? Sorry, I don’t mean to tread on any toes mate, just thinking out loud here.
So I guess that I see the problem as having 2 solutions: Produce work that you love using a technique that you love and find your audience, or produce more mainstream or provocative work using the same technique BUT produced with the intent of wooing a specific audience.
Just my two cents worth.
Cheers,
Ken

Ken, thanks and yes. After reading what Vish had said, I was talking with an older artist friend I used to work with and it seems we are all thinking along the same line here. Create drawings on social issues and something that offers a strong impact in both image and impression it leaves on the viewer.
I have emailed a friend I have drawn in the past and alway there for me when I need s pose and I will see what he thinks. He is a firefight and rancher so I am sure he can he a great help.

Hi David,
I feel so badly for you the frustration is just soooo awful but please don’t get discourged your talent is obviously great and people love your work.
I grew very depressed last year because it didn’t matter what i tried to do every single door remained very firmly and most definately closed. I was trapped on every level and couldn’t understand why God allowed this when i soooo wanted to work or do something with my time! I read in Job that God hedged him in and for a reason….to bring out some facet of his character and this i realised is what God did to me! The only door that would open was the photography door so i decided to concentrate on that…........i’m just so glad i did and i owe that to God if He hadn’t hedged me in so that i couldn’t move except in one direction i would never have discovered my true passion!!!!!
All i’m trying to say is that when all doors remain firmly closed it’s because that is not the right way or time to go but there is most definately a direction that He wants you go and it will become apparent soon! If you can move in any direction then DO IT, do you draw buildings or landscape or something? He is most definately stretching you and moving you out of your comfort zone and sometimes we go kicking and screaming then realise it was the best way afterall….....just enjoy the journey and it’ll be sooooo interesting to find out which door will open for you…......i wait with bated breath!!!! :0)

Thanks for the inspiration and reminder. At times its easy to forget that the Lrd is in charge and not u. Its only when we try to take over, we screw up! At least thats how it works for me. LOL
I feel the book I has put together was all His doing. I woke up on Jan 1 knowing I had to get it done.. and I drew nearly every day for 9 months to get it done.
Thanks!!! And yes, things will work out in spite of my frustrations.
