Taken at Cosley Zoo in Wheaton, Illinois with a Canon 7D DSLR and 100-400mm Lens.
This Great Horned Owl was being trained and fed and the trainer was kind enough to pose it for a few photo ops.

Found from the Arctic tundra to the tropical rainforest, from the desert to suburban backyards, the Great Horned Owl is one of the most widespread and common owls in North America.

The great horned is a large owl with prominent ear tufts widely spaced on it’s head. This owl is only about four months old, so her ear tufts are still somewhat downy and not so well defined.
