Thank you very much for the kind words and the warm welcome Debbie!!

This looks so beautifully and delightfully unreal. Wonderful

John Absher replied
Thanks Jesika. Coincidentally, I was just in the process of googling University of York Lake after seeing your Great Crested Grebe shot. For some reason, I thought you were from somewhere in Indiana, USA and was hoping it might not be too far for me to make a day trip and hope to get a shot like yours … LOL!

This is absolutely beautiful John. You’ve been holding out onto this one. This would have been one of my first uploads onto RB from your Oregon trip. The sky is such a wonderful peach pastel color and the warm glow of the rocks is fantastic. A truly great image. Thanks for sharing. I see this one being featured somewhere.
John Absher replied
That’s funny Adam … I haven’t been holding out on this one … truth is, I wasn’t that happy with it on my first pass through all the shots from vacation.
Wife and I spotted this at the end of a long, tiring day when I had pretty much agreed … enough pix for today, let’s get some dinner and call it a day. When we spotted this driiving along the coast, we both thought it had great potential, so I pulled over, set up for one composition that I felt pretty happy with and fired off five quick shots at 0.5 exposure intervals. In fact, I was pretty sure I had seen these rocks in a magazine somewhere. I couldn’t wait to see what they looked like when we got home and was pretty disappointed with what I saw. I wasn’t really happy with any of them, so I pretty much put them to the back of the list of shots to work on and post. Yesterday I came across them again and figured I try combining through the Photomatix HDR software and Whalla … I was blown away with the results. I have used Photomatix on a lot of my images the past couple months, but can’t recall it having as dramatic an effect/improvement on any of them as it did on these. Individually, each of the shots I took for this one were so lackluster to me … I wasn’t even as thrilled with the composition as I thought I would be when I set up the shot.
Thanks for nice words Adam. Guess I’m going to be careful about what I consider for the delete basket from now on.

Exceptional composition…brilliant colors!
John Absher replied
Thank you very much Beve … you might find my earlier response to Adam interesting … i.e., the way this shot came out was a very pleasant surprise to me … kinda like “a diamond in the rough”, I guess.

very lovely, composition, colors, textures, and that tree – wonderful!

Ok. This is what you do. You create a calendar on RB and make this image you teaser/title image for the calendar. I went over your portfolio and the following are the images that I would (merely) suggest to use:
Jan –
Feb –
Mar –
Apr –
May –
Jun –
Jul –
Aug –
Sep –
Oct –
Nov –
Dec –
What do you think?
John Absher replied
Adam, Adam, Adam … What can I say but “THANK YOU VERY MUCH” and that I am flattered and humbled by your taking both the time and the interest to pull your thoughts (and my images) together on my behalf.
Seeing your chosen images laid out as you did does shed a motivating light on the calendar idea, plus you’ve now gotten my family on my case to put one together. I was actually surprised to see that one of my daughters apparently has joined RedBubble, I presume to allow her to leave comments, which she has done further below agreeing with your recommendation.
My other daughter tells me that my 13 year old grandson has told her she should push me to follow through and he mentioned it to me himself a couple days ago.
Thanks again ya clown … see what you started now … pressure, I have an aversion to pressure … had 38 years of corporate life and now strive to live as stress free as possible … ya, that’s gonna happen … LOL!
All kidding aside Adam, I greatly appreciate your kind words and encouragement … you are a true friend!

Beautiful , seems the HDR didi the trick!
John Absher replied
Thanks Carolyn … greatly appreciated!! I started trialing the HDR technique a few months ago and have been pleasantly surprised by what can be done with it. Biggest danger though for a person like myself is to not over cook things. It is very easy for me to overdo a good thing without realizing it.

Not too often I come across a photographer with a body of artwork that captivates me. You have the gift of producing art as you might have envisioned it. True, knowing how to tweak photomatix and ps may seem easy, but I know from my own experience that it ain’t so most of the time. I can relate to your story of coming to this image later and than the magic accures. This is a fantastic image that drew my attention immidiately. Superb composition, light, presentation and post processing. A fave for me.
John Absher replied
Hey Eyal … thanks for visiting and thank you very much for your gracious comments. I remember you from SP and always thought your work was amazing. In fact, discovering through RB that we both live in the Chicago area, Adam Bykowski and met personally for a photo shoot a couple months ago and he brought your name up as one of many photographers here that he aspires to.
Thanks again Eyal!!
Jason Asher
Beautiful John :)
John Absher replied
Hey Jason … thank you very much for kind words here and I’ve noticed on some of my other images as well. Greatly appreciate your taking time to look through and comment on several of my images.
Apologize for delay in getting back to you and I have also been intending to check out more of your stuff too. Have been quite consumed lately preparing for first attempt to try to sell some of my stuff at a local art/craft show this week end. It came up on very short notice through my daughter who is going to share a booth with me. Never had any idea how much there would be to do to get ready for something like this and while really looking forward to the experience, can’t wait till it’s over so I can get back out in the field shooting again.
Beve Brown-Clark
I think Adam is dead on the money, for a calendar line up!!! Yes…I wait many months before deleting images…you just never know what will become of them! Good thing you didn’t delete this series!
John Absher replied
Thank you very much Beve … for both the kind words and the calendar encouragement. I think I will probably be doing that if things ever slow down enough that I get a chance. As you can see, I’m running a couple weeks behind just responding to people who were kind enough to stop by and leave a comment. Thanks again … john.
Angie McKenzie
beautiful! love the colors of such a beautiful scene.

Thank you very much Angie … comments greatly appreciated!!

Thank you very much Diane. I am honored, humbled, and apologetic … i.e., for taking so long to respond. Things have been very hectic lately, but I greatly appreciate the opportunity to be featured in the All Oregon Group. What an incredibly gorgeous state. Wife and I were out there for a week or so and I wish I could go back and stay a couple months!!

Fabulous shot John, love the composition and the tones!!
John Absher replied
Thank you very much for the comment John, and especially for some specificity as to what you liked best about the shot. Greatly appreciated!!
Joanne Bradley
Beautiful light, color, composition and title!
John Absher replied
Thank you very much Joanne. Glad you like the photo, as well as the title. I feel I am terrible with titles, not much vision or imagination. This one was a real stretch and wasn’t sure how many people would actually understand the meaning behind it. Apparently, you did … thanks again!!
lizalady
I would of never guessed this to be Oregon. Fantastic piece of work.
John Absher replied
Thank you very much Liz. My wife and I were very pleasantly surprised by the incredible beauty of Oregon. Greatly appreciate your kind words!!
CailliauArt
Beautiful work, you were practically standing in front of my house…
John Absher replied
Thank you so much Joan!!! So, just how close were we?? Do you actually live right there along that highway? What a lucky coincidence that you should see the image, respond, and actually live right there. I have googled the heck out of “Oregon Coast”, “rock formations”, etc. trying to find other images of these rocks and to see if anyone knows if there is a name for this location or these rocks.
If you happen to know of one, I would greatly appreciate knowing it.
Thanks much Joan!!

Dad,
This is an amazing shot! Beautiful, definitely a keeper! I like Adam’s suggestions for your calendar. In fact, I could use a 2010 calendar so you’ve got a few months :)
John Absher replied
Stacey ???? Well, I was certainly surprised to see that you signed up for RB so you could leave comments. And what a pleasant surprise to see the thumbnail of you and Aidan … Cool!!
Thanks for the nice comment Babe, glad you like this one, and we’ll have to see if we can do the calendar idea. Adam is quite a guy. He is always looking for other photographers/artists to coach and encourage. I may have mentioned to you that he actually lives in Oak Lawn and he and I got together and spent a day shooting sunrise on the lakefront and various things at the botanic gardens a couple months ago.
Hey, gotta run … headed out the door for Hannah and Stella’s bday parties … see ya there!!

Adam Bykowski
Hey, I have to reply to you way down here, but you’re welcome HA HA. Creating a calendar on RB is easy. Just follow the instructions. If I can do it, you can do it. Hey, and I don’t want to hear about added stress, Mr. I’m Retired. I’m still working and work in Quality in manufacturing, which is loaded with stress and daily deadlines ya big goof. Just messing with you. Like Eyal Nahmias said, you have the gift of producing art as you envisioned it. You need to thank him by the way. He left you some really high praise. I think your Oregon trip rounded out your entire portfolio and you are truly ready for a wonderful calendar. This “I Stand Corrected” image is such a fantasticaly beautiful image that it created the spark of my idea and something possibly big for you. good luck buddy

Wow!!! This is just beautiful. Simply outstanding!

John, I love this spot, but I have never been there during a nice light time. You captured it well. Randy

LOVE this shot…I think you’ve captured photographically what Roger Dean expressed in painting. (i.e. a bit of the old Yessongs flair).
