The day was cold with flurries of snow
The journey long with far to go
When all at once I saw your stone
It stood in the mist it stood alone

I read the verse I looked around
Not a soul in sight no not a sound
The view unspoiled the scene supreme
The joy of solitude the peace the dream

No mighty cross of granite grey
With lion of stone to guard the way
Just a simple little plaque
Painted white with letters black

The sentiment pure the words just right
As daylight faded into night
I walked off the hill my thoughts
With you the mysterious stranger I never knew.
