Wonderfully strange and surreal, well drawn. Like the use of color.
Crucified on the family tree? POWERFUL piece!!!! most excellent!
I drew this in response to a boiling controversy here in Manila, where a child was subjected to humiliation on national primetime TV. The boy of 6 years danced to a provocative number associated with male sex strippers in gay clubs while crying. It raised a loud and angry uproar amongst civil society and placed into national debate how much popular media in my country has been debasing its viewers. It also sparked debates on how us Filipinos, as a culture view abusive behavior towards children. The sad thing behind it, child abuse here, amongst many Filipinos, is seen and defined only in terms of the physical. Making a child do a sexually charged number on TV while he is crying, is forcing our culture to see child abuse beyond the mere physical but the greater damage is done more subtly in the emotional and psychological level.
Sadly though, child abuse is still prevalent, not only in my country, but throughout the southeast asian region.
