A large snapping turtle sitting on the side of Hubbardston/Westminster Rd in Hubbardston MA
Snapping Turtles generally hang out in stagnant swamps, ponds and slow moving rivers. They are carrion diners. On land, when threatened it will live up to it’s reputation by snapping and hissing while standing on all fours and rocking back and forth. This guy just looked at me with disinterest. He was covered with mud on his shell. I think he was just catching a few rays before the sun moved him into the shadow of the guardrail.
