Companion piece to my first Rapunzel painting [http://www.redbubble.com/people/painted-lizard/...] and is also done in the style of Arthur Rackham, but my own composition and take on the classic Rapunzel story instead of a master study.
This piece is set several years after the first one, and Rapunzel, who has gotten sick and tired of waiting to be rescued, has decided to take measures into her own hands. Literally. This is the moment right before he captor falls to her doom.
I had the most fun doing the books and the stars, I hid a few of my own favorite constellations in her painted ceiling.
Painted with Winsor & Newton paints on 300 lb Cold Press paper.
Drawn in pencil first, blocked out the white with masking fluid and then slowly built up the layers with washes.
Actual painting is about 8×14 inches
