It's A Lovesome Thing....Illustrated

The poem starts:“A garden is a lovesome thing” and everyday when I walk through my gardens, (there are two gardens, one in the front and one in the back of my house), that poem runs in my head…
I love my gardens even though they mean backbreaking work at at this time of year…as with all city gardens they are not big in size but I have crammed them full with all sorts of plants, daylilies, hydrangeas, hostas, ferns and other plants are there as well…..
I take lots of pictures for my garden website and of course to paint, either now or in winter…
Here are some of the daylilies….not all are in bloom at the moment, some have finished blooming and others will show later on, but here are some of those that are flowering right now the description to see more..

How your garden must come alive with this wonderful display, Janis! With your prolific number of paintings, I would never have thought you would’ve had time to garden as well! You are amazing, my friend, and an inspiring example to me! Thank you! ~ Pat

  • I like to be busy, but truly I can fit a lot of things into a day…I do the gardens in the mornings before breakfast…I prune, clip flowers, take photos and water etc….then the rest of the day is free to to everything else…I have to be organized as I have a family to look after as well…thanks so much Pat…glad you like my lilies..

Holy cow, they look like right out of a plant catalog…gorgeous and healthy under your care! Yes, it is hard work. I have back problems and have slowly had to give up gardening much, but am always planting something anyway, even if just in a few big patio pots. Just have to watch something grow, and the miracle of a seed sprouting never fails to amaze me. Your yard must be gorgeous with all these beautiful plants and flowers!

  • I love a garden, and yes it is a lot of work, but the rewards are unparalleled…I will post some other flowers as soon as I finish my next and last collab for Sojie…thanks so much Cindy…there is a picture of one of my borders in my portfolio here…

What a gorgeous variety, Janis. I love lilies for their variety and because you can plan planting of different species for color nearly all year (nearly). You have such beauties to show for your labor of love. I can imagine you having a huge new cache of resources from which to paint. Beautiful!

  • Here we have only June July August, for blooming, but a lot can be crammed into those three months….I keep falling in love with more and more plants, but unless I take up my small lawn (and I might just do that ), I have no more room…thanks so much Frannie…
