Chatting

Chatting belongs to the following groups:
! Creative Writing & Poetry !, All Around the Styles, AW Welcome Center, Bits and Pieces , EF Welcome Center, Everyday Life, Freedom to Shine, If it doesn't belong, in-between, JPG Cast-Offs, Light In The Darkness, Live and Let Live, Live, Love, Dream: , Outsiders, Safe Haven, THE DIVINE FEMININE, The Healing Journey, The Patchwork , The Red Writing Room, THE SISTERHOOD, Tuesday Afternoon, Who are YOU to Judge? and Woman AppreciationFriends chat, and I know we’re friends, but somehow we never seem to stop, sit down with that cup of tea and just chat...
Chatting is defined as conversing in an easy, familiar manner...to talk lightly and casually, about any an everything that crosses our minds…it precludes arguing, and topics should never be controversial.
On RedBubble, we have great opportunities... we post work… photos, writing, paintings, and once done, we rush off to comment on the postings of others, entering a challenge or two etc…..sometimes on an art page the comments run away with us and end up verging on chat, but we rein ourselves back…after all this is the art page and somehow it hardly fits to talk about things not related to the painting or photo at the top of the page...
So here I am at two in the morning, scrambling around in the dark looking for scraps of paper to write on...I normally have journals all over the place, but it seems they’re eluding me tonight….I should be in deep restorative sleep that I need right now, but it has not happened so far, and this burning desire for a chat just would not be quelled...
Recently I have been going through my large library of Virago publications and re-reading Dame Rebecca West ..primarily her trio of books, based on her own life, starting with “The Fountain Overflows” and ending with “Cousin Rosamonde”...West was “author, journalist, literary critic and travel writer. A prolific, protean author who wrote in many genres, she was committed to feminist and liberal principles and was one of the foremost public intellectuals of the twentieth century”..wiki..It was said of her that “No one in this century wrote more dazzling prose, or had more wit, or looked at the intricacies of human character and the ways of the world more intelligently.”
Do you re-read your favourite books? I do… all the time…even after the third or fourth reading there is something new to be discovered, some bon mot to be savoured anew…the fact that you know how it all turns out is oddly comforting…there is no surprise on the last page, and understanding the plot and characters so well, you know exactly what they’re going to do and say and you end up practically mouthing the words along with them..
My reading group don’t really share my taste in books, so I have no one with which to discuss this frightfully complicated, erudite writer, whose prose literally sings from the page…her language is so lovely, you sometimes forget the story to delight in her style and vocabulary… if any of you read Virago classics and/or have read West, I would be delighted to discuss her or any of the others with you...
Chatting has no rules, so I am going to make an about turn and change the subject...
Have you ever noticed that the painting you were proudest of and gloated over a year or two ago as your greatest achievement, now pales by comparison beside your latest masterpiece…it becomes yesterday’s news…well that’s not unusual at all…you are now a more experienced painter or photographer, and your newest piece is a reflection of that..your brush strokes are more confident, compositions tight, etc. etc…does it make you wonder excitedly how much better you are going to be a year from now, and the year after that, or does it make you afraid you may never do another as good as this one?
That being said I am sure you all have as I do, paintings that seemed to paint themselves, without your consciousness having anything to do with it, and you know those works will stand the test of time…that instinctive genius came from somewhere beyond you…we pray for moments like that to happen again…that feeling of exaltation when we knew we were painting with a purpose...
I don’t know about you, but I am a sucker for Flash Mob Dances...they are absolutely delightful to see…you want to get in there and be part of that unalloyed joy…that moment when you are all connected as simply human beings and nothing else..
I firmly believe that if you can get hundreds and even thousands of people to sing and dance in unison around the world, why are we still having wars?...I have some links to a few below, but there are many more of these visual treats on youtube...
Yesterday I took the first stroll around my garden in weeks...though it was cold and wet, there was still much to be seen…almost every shrub carried it’s own particular berry and I was lucky that the birds had not yet devoured them all…there were the Berberries, with their sharp, small and vivid scarlet berries, the Euonymous with it’s orange berries slipping off their white coats, the porcelaine vine with it myriad coloured berries in mauve, purple, pink, and icy blue, the purple black berries of the ivy cascading in profusion over the fence and the dead black of the St John’s wort berry…I took a few candid “as is” pictures to add to my garden website, and exclaimed to myself for what seemed the millionth time…isn’t nature wonderful!!... see some of them on the right with a little glimpse of my Japanese Maple, now beginning to shed it’s leaves

Beautiful janis..and I enjoyed reading that ..you really are a warm and delightful friend..and you make the best of life by your positive outlook..well done ! your garden sounds magical and we’re also doing a peruse of our spring garden and also a major revamp ..after years of drought in victoriaand not being able to water very much because of restrictions it sure takes it’s toll on the garden.. luckily we have the very tall gum trees..maybe dangerous in some aspects to have so many encircling the house..but on the other hand they make a great looking haven for when all else fails in the garden. bob is so busy laying terracotta coloured concrete pavers all over the backyard ..it looks so wonderful and will cut down on the mud in winter and the dust in summer. It’s a major job ..but well worth it and makes our whole garden come alive!
I haven’t done much painting lately as there hasn’t been a lot of inspiration flowing i think I’m rather stressed at present and ..I’m at a bit of standtill at the moment as far as painting because are so many other (house) things I just have to do.
but I hope for some inspiration soon . as for the part where you talked of the paintings that just flowed out effortlessly..well yes I’ve also had a few good times like that very interesting ..minor miracles ..and I wish there were many more..some things I just can’t force though and they sort of come in waves and as they want to appear..hha!
much love ..and thanks for the chat ..I could go on and on and on ..but there’s a ton of chores waiting for me today ..so have a great day janis..and thanks..you’re an inspiring soul !
xxxoooo

You must post some pictures of the garden when it’s done…it sounds great…
Re: inspiration…wait till it comes, but it’s a good idea to at least paint some little things, even with no idea in your mind as to what you are going to paint..it helps to relieve the stress…just some small pieces of paper or canvas and what ever is out on your table, and just put one stroke and then another…you may surprise yourself…have a great day Catherine…thanks for chatting…

I enjoyed your chat!! You have lots to say about many things! I agree about the art. I look back at some of my work and can see my improvement when I compare them to newer ones. Course, I keep changing mediums so I am not always seeing the growth but know I am growing.
I have been very busy lately, so many responsibilities in my life. I am glad I have Wed carved out for art – it gave me the chance to paint my newest. Sure as I got busier, I got sick on top of allergies so my energy has been low. But this a chat not a complaint so I will steer away from that.
Just got back from church. It was a wonderful service on forgiveness, letting go and unburdening our lives to the One who can free us. Church frees me up and allows me to give over the heaviness in my life and be open again to the goodness that is in life. I am grateful for that.
Speaking of gardens, and I know yours is lovely Janis. I have been wanting to plant red begonias and ornamental kale. I figure the begonias would be a nice touch that moves from Fall to Winter well. The weather here continues to be hot though so really there is no Fall or Winter here, only in mind!:-)
I am off to an afternoon of flag football as I continue to contemplate what to paint next – a father/son scene or a vegetable!lol
I don’t tend to reread my fav books, though I often say I wil, but I wont let them go either. Just knowing I can peek back into them is a comfort!!
Thanks for listening! It’s nice to ramble away like this. We need a bit of spiced cider and cookies I think :-)

Spiced cider and cookies sounds great and we will have some tonight…I am going to make some choc. chip…you inspired me to make some…though we should be finishing up some pie from yesterday…
I too have been sick this past week and I can’t afford to stay in bed long as I have too many responsiblities…but I must say I revelled in the luxury of sleep during the day…it’s something I never do…but I said the hell with it…I’m in pain and feel like dying so here goes…I put the music on and slept for three days on and off…only waking to shower and eat what my husband brought me…sleep when you really need it is nice…
I am posting a new painting right now…fall is such an inspiring time…your weather is warm…lucky you…our high was 10c today…we were able to get some outside painting done…your begonias and kale will be great together…thanks Leslie for chatting and have a great afternoon…...

Hi Janis….thanks for the newsy chat….good to see you up and about even if it is 2am! I never do read a book twice and these days find it very hard to read at all….in my spare time I tend to pick up a paintbrush now. So true about the painting ….some are not our best but at the time we seem rather proud of it …until we realise there is so much more to learn! Saw the Michael Jackson unison dance on tv this morning it was such a joy to see! and yes we need more dancing less fighting.! I see your Japanese Maple….how pretty it is…ours turn that colour but it is very Green right now….I was busy outside taking shots of plants yesterday too ..it is rather amazing all the designs and colours …all vying for attention and I am studying them more closer now due to my latest painting.
Well it is cold and raining here today …weather has changed from hot to cold lately …hope you get some more sleep soon, take care Linda
Janis Zroback replied
I hope I can sleep better tonight, but at least I was doing something creative…I read all the time…usually have several books on the go…Darkestartist and I belong to the same online club called Goodreads…Mingtees is there as well…I also belong to my neighbourhood book club and up to a short while ago, ran my own club from my home…I simply could not survive without reading…..
That is the lowest bit of the maple and I had to hold the camera above my head to get the shot…it’s dropping all it’s leaves now….I don’t usually paint the garden, but I do take pictures for the website I created for it…that being said I may do a few abstracts based on garden colour…thanks for chatting Linda…I think it’s a great way for a community like ours to get to know each other…

Hi Janis,
I really enjoyed your chat and then looking at the pics you have posted beside the column I can see that your paintings reflect your eye in capturing the garden around you, Any one of the images could be your painting!!
Your artists eye takes the images to a different level.
Thank you for your inspirations and writings, I think all the folk that read and see your pages gain so much . Congratulations. And you have been ill so you should be looking after yourself more and not staying up till 2am.
Regards,

Actually I did go to bed…I was in it for the better part of the week, but then I really could not sleep any more and woke up with this idea in my head…I had to write it down right away…
Those photos were candid shots quickly done as I was not supposed to stay too long outside…I have a website for the garden so I post them there..
I’m so glad you like my work Anna…thanks for stopping by to comment…I really appreciate it…

Well Janis – I have been experiencing some of that ‘sleeplessness’ recently, except my 3.00 a.m. would probably be your middle of the day!!!! I have enjoyed reading your chatting and the responses very much.

I hope you are feeling better Linda….this unique society of ours usually share info about work or illness…I thought it was time we just chatted about other things…it adds form and substance to us outside of our work….thanks for stopping by…I appreciate it
