“Bare branches of each tree
on this chilly January morn
look so cold so forlorn.
Gray skies dip ever so low
left from yesterday’s dusting of snow.
Yet in the heart of each tree
waiting for each who wait to see
new life as warm sun and breeze will blow,
like magic, unlock springs sap to flow,
buds, new leaves, then blooms will grow
"..excerpt Nelda Hartmann

Woke up to dense fog…no life anywhere that I could see…dead silence in the city as if during the night the rest of the world had quietly packed up and moved away…the snow that fell a few days before still covered the ground, the trees like so many ghosts, faint silhouettes in the greyness..
Later a ray of sun penetrates the gloom…gradually buildings emerge as if from hiding and the city comes alive

I paint in many different styles and feature a myriad of subject matter, which I show as individual collections….
I am inspired by the world interpreting it in brilliant colours, often influenced by the writings of famous authors and poets..

Exquisite work Janis, wonderful effect with the shadows on the snow.
Your translations always bring me to a place I feel I`ve been to before… wonder if others feel the same?
Maybe the success of your work is that it has this effect on all who look?
In any case, your style is unique as it is engaging and gorgeworthy.
    Beautiful :-)

  • Thank you so much Billy…always lovely to see you on my art pages…
I suppose because I do paint from real life, albeit in my own style, people can find something with which they can relate when viewing the work, but it’s intriguing that you feel you’ve been there before and I do hope others feel the same..thank you so much for the wonderful compliment..

Such a brilliant evocation of our January, Janis! We had that fog yesterday as well, & then torrential rain, a few rumbles of thunder, & by this morning, green(ish) grass replacing the snow. A record high temperature in Buffalo this a.m., but wind & snow on the way. Time to hunker once again. But it’s almost February!

  • I know…although it’s wonderful to be warm…today the temperatures are record setting…it’s a bit frightening because many don’t accept that it’s global warming that’s causing all these strange anomalies in the weather…glad that February is just around the corner, then March and it’s spring….
I’m really happy you like the painting…thank you so much…

And what a beautiful morning it is. Love the soft pillows of snow on the ground.

  • Thanks so much Frannie…not so great this morning, (pouring rain), but I will paint it with a bit of hope in it later today…I’m really happy you like it..
