Heart of Fire by ©Janis Zroback

Available to buy on…

“O Winter! frozen pulse and heart of fire,
What loss is theirs who from thy kingdom turn
Dismayed, and think thy snow a sculptured urn
Of death! Far sooner in midsummer tire
The streams than under ice. June could not hire
Her roses to forego the strength they learn
In sleeping on thy breast
."..Helen Hunt Jackson, A Calendar of Sonnets: January

*Sunsets in January often blaze with colour just like they do in summer…although rare they tell us that the cold and the snow have a heart of fire…in the garden at sundown, patches of snow at the roots of bare trees, fiery light turning white to gold..Janis

Abstract of the garden at sundown in winter in Watercolour on Arches Not Paper….

I paint in many different styles and feature a myriad of subject matter, which I show as individual collections….
I am inspired by the world interpreting it in brilliant colours, often influenced by the writings of famous authors and poets..

“The shortest day has passed, and whatever nastiness of weather we may look forward to in January and
February, at least we notice that the days are getting longer. Minute by minute they lengthen out. It takes some weeks before we become aware of the change. It is imperceptible even as the growth of a child, as you watch it day by day, until the moment comes when with a start of delighted surprise we realize that we can stay out of doors in a twilight lasting for another quarter of a precious hour

Beautiful, love the abstraction of your work and the use of color and effects. I know what you mean about the color and light in winter. When we lived in OK, I loved to see the sunrise and sunset even in winter, because of how it acted on snow and ice. The first light on the bare trees was always an indescribable pinkish gold and it was fleeting.

  • Well w’ve got the shortest day behind us now and even though the coldest days are coming at least they’re getting shorter…the worst part of winter for me is darkness…I hate it and have every light on in the house after four o clock…
I just posted this, even though the site still seems deserted, but I have to get on with work and plans for this year (see FB for some of them)…have some good journals coming up too…
Thanks so much Cindy…I’m really glad you like it….
