Heat bubbling up from below
catches that emanating
from the sun’s surface and bursts
into flame under my feet…
burning like embers stirred by
my passing, they set the ground
ablaze with one last gasp of
color, these stubborn autumn
leaves.
Nearly Winter and they
refuse to die quietly:
how they glow.
Perhaps they think
I will not remember them..
while they ignite like lightning,
showering my eyes with reds
and oranges and yellows:
they make it hard to forget
…K. Dorman

This little tree in my garden is still hanging on to it’s leaves…I stop every day and admire it…it’s freezing, drifts at it’s feet, but still puts on a brave show..soon all the leaves will be gone…right now it’s the last gasp..

Love the suggestive movement; as well the contrast of those vibrant leaves to the grass against the white – like the colours are being blown away. It is getting madly windy outside now…

  • Thanks so much MuiLing…yes snow is definitely on it’s way…

As always the colors and illumination is what draws us to your work Janis! But I particulalry love how you blended both seasons so artfully! The bright hues with the snow and browns and I also noticed like Mui-Ling how the colors seem to fade away into that wide open space of light!

  • Thanks so much Joanne…lovely of you to stop by and comment…I am really happy you like it..

I forgot that I wanted to ask if the plant in your yard is a Burning Bush? That is what I thought of as soon as I saw the thumbnail! I have been meaning to get one for my own yard! As in your image the fiery red just jumps out of the scene!

  • Actually it’s a small maple, but I did have a burning bush that lasted 12 years until the city changed the water pipes and killed the roots..it was stunning, but this maple is also very brilliant in colour…

This is really stunning….seems a bit deserted…could it be your interpretation of the activity on the bubble…I will stick around and comment when I see your work wahini…

  • You must have been reading my FB posts just now…very discouraging to see it so quiet…at this rate I don’t know if I should keep posting or not…thanks so much for your support KJ.
