To light, to water,
and the flow of birds
through ancient stars.
To the wild sun of winter
startling the dark green trees:
giants of majestic silence.
To snow on roofs
and the peace of Sunday.
To quiet and certitude,
to breathing, to air.
To acceptance, to dreams.
To disclosures of the sleeping heart,
for air, for light
. M.Liebovitz..Winter Sun

The sun in winter can sometimes be even more dramatic than in summer…without the camouflage of leaves it shines through the trees setting them on fire at days end…here in the north every sunset leaves you gasping at it’s beauty..

Semi-Abstract Watercolour of a Northern Ontario Landscape in early winter..ponds are not yet frozen, but the soft drifts have begun to mass around the fence posts, soon to make the land impassable..Watercolour on Arches Not Paper…View Large to see details….

I paint in many different styles and feature a myriad of subject matter, which I show as individual collections….
I am inspired by the world interpreting it in brilliant colours, often influenced by the writings of famous authors and poets..

Oh this is stunning Janis ! The colors are wonderful :)

  • Thank you so much Renee…I was hoping to evoke the Group of Seven in this painting (albeit not like the way they paint at all) and I think I succeeded..I am very happy with it…

    Beautiful piece… I love those birds. :)

I really really like this one Janis. It’s the way the entire painting seems to be alive. Everything has motion. Just beautifully designed and painted.

  • Thank you so much Jim…you know those days where everything seems ordered in the universe and paintings flow unfettered from your mind to the brush…this was one of those days..all my paintings are created in the same way…wet paper, wet paint, so they’re all pretty well alla prima including this one…the exceptions would be the hyper real ones..

Love the soft pastel colours in the sky as the tree tops softly blend with them. Indeed the sun can sometimes be more dramatic in the winter than in the summer – and like you show, the snow would shine.

  • Yes I never see snow as wholly white but as a reflection of the colours around it…sky, buildings, people etc…of course this is a romanticized view, but still it often comes close enough to be true…thanks so much MuiLing..
