White is the ground, white is the mist,
The clouds, still full of snow,
Are white, turning gently to gray.
Icy white are the delicate branches
of trees covered with rime.
The wind remains watchfully still,
Not allowing any trill of twig
Which might break the crystal artwork.
Even the sound of my steps wants
to hide itself inside the snow.

White is the ground, white is the mist,
What enchanted quiet land is this?
Under what heaven do I walk?
I fold my hands and give thanks
to this greatest of silent wonders. J.E. van der Waals
The woods in winter turn into a land of mystery, with amorphous shapes that once were trees and grass frozen into sharp glassy shards of ice…hard to believe that just a few weeks ago children ran here, families picnicked…only the sunset gets to penetrate it’s stillness…it’s a different country..an "enchanted quiet land"

It also the times many animals go to sleep – can you imagine months of sleep? There is more silence there. In your painting it feels like the spirit of the colourful seasons are still lingering though. Very beautiful Janis.
Most of my winter scenes are full of colour because I see colour all year round even in a blizzard…thanks so much MuiLing…very nice of you..

But if a tree falls in the forest, will it make a sound if no one is there to hear it? LOL Your title made that old logic question just pop into my head. It really has little to do with this gorgeous wintery scene Janis.
I don’t think it will…not in this kind of weather any way…thanks so much Jim…very nice of you..
