“Yea, I have looked, and seen November there;
The changeless seal of change it seemed to be,
Fair death of things that, living once, were fair;
Bright sign of loneliness too great for me,
Strange image of the dread eternity,
In whose void patience how can these have part,
These outstretched feverish hands, this restless heart
?"William Morris

The last of the berries on the Virginia Creeper are still on the vine…the leaves are long gone, but the berries cling tenaciously till the birds descend on them with glee..

    really, this one had me at the thumbnail ~ it feels bittersweet & William Morris quote spot on divine ~ coupled together simply brilliant…xx

  • Yes his words expressed exactly what I felt as I painted the last of these vines…we all cling to the shreds of warmth while reluctantly facing the inevitable…the garden is filled with berries at this time of year, so there will be a few more paintings of them….thank you so much for the lovely compliment Linda…

    Janis, this a lovely painting of a month that used to fill me with dread as I found it so grey but now I have time to resume my art and develop it alongside new interests, November has less of a grip on me generally.

  • When my husband looked at this painting he said “well that is not like any November I know”…I replied, "look outside and see the leaves on the trees, they’re still full of colour, though sparse now, there is a bit of snow flurry

  • and that adds some white to the mix..there is a bit of blue in the grayish sky and some green is still showing in the garden…put it all together and you get November"..
    The painting is a mash up of the month and the season…thanks so much Susan…I am so glad the painting helped to lift your spirits…

    Absolutely gorgeous work Janis – the colours are wonderful! Have you received your new Blurb books yet?

  • Thanks so much Pauline…yes I did, and they are lovely…the Earth Songs book is absolutely splendid…I chose a matte paper and it was the perfect choice as it resembles the original watercolours…will set the new books free today or tomorrow, but might not post a journal right away…too many things to do..

    Always enjoy your expert use and management of colour in everything you do. This one holds no exception, Janis. The poetry has a good fit on this one.

  • Thanks so much Jim…good of you to say so…glad you recovered from the last poem..contemporary verse has a way of sending you reeling sometimes… :))

    This time of year results in some of the best colors. I love the look of the last berries, especially when they’re frozen. Great color and effects as always.

  • Thanks so much Cindy…the colours are fading fast where I live but still vibrant in the warmer parts of the country…

    And as the leaves go so do their colours – love the mix of colours you have in the background that were once on the trees, as your white berries foresee the snow.

  • Thanks so much MuiLing…the white berries are meant to show how fast they disappear after the leaves go..note:I don’t actually paint with white, I just don’t paint the white areas…

    Can’t wait to see your books Janis and so pleased you are thrilled with them. Let me know when you have, as you say, set them free and then I can find them on Blurb if you haven’t created a journal. I so love looking at your books!

  • Thanks so much Pauline…a new one has just been published…no journal, but I sent you a link and it’s on FB as well..
