the table, at the midpoint
of summer,
the tomato,
star of earth, recurrent
and fertile
its convolutions,
its canals,
its remarkable amplitude
and abundance,

no pit,
no husk,
no leaves or thorns,
the tomato offers
its gift
of fiery color
and cool completeness
.Pablo Neruda

My neighbour is away for several months…she has left her tomato plants unattended and the heavy fruit is lying sprawled on the terrace, still on the branch, where squirrels can feast on them…I just paint them

From the dark collection..Gouache on Linen Paper

Above are four examples of my tomato paintings, from hyperreal to semi-abstract..

I paint in many different styles and feature a myriad of subject matter, which I show as individual collections….
I am inspired by the world interpreting it in brilliant colours, often influenced by the writings of famous authors and poets..

Cool abstractions, glad not only the squirrels are getting something out of it!

  • Thank you so much Cindy…by the time she returns, they will all be gone…

beautiful work Janis, gee we must be thinking ‘red’ in our heads today….lovely shapes and bold light and shadows! :) x

  • Thank you so much Karin…I try to include a bit of read and a bit of blackish blue in every painting even if it can’t be easily seen…do it in the home as well…a touch of black or read in each room… :))

  • I love fall…there is a special scent to it and even a special sound…it is the time of Word on the Street, and event I also love…thanks so much MuiLing..
