My evergreen leaves and bright red berries, seen against the barren oaks of winter, will remind you of the Life that sustains us during the bitterest time of the year."..The Holly King

My garden is full of berries…most of the shrubs I’ve planted grow berries in the fall…, barberry, uonymous, holly et al…what ever the birds have not eaten is left to decorate the winter…here are some I saw through the window, after the snow fall last night…some were covered completely in caps of snow, others paraded their vivid crimson against the blanched white of the garden…Toronto, Ontario, Canada…

Watercolor on Arches Paper…

berries, fall, autumn, vines, season, watercolour, janis zroback, orange, brown, abstract, branches, red, blue, landscape, landscape painting, branch, rose hips, food, fruit, cherries, january, december, winter, snow, white, frost

I paint in many different styles and feature a myriad of subject matter, which I show as individual collections….
I am inspired by the world interpreting it in brilliant colours, often influenced by the writings of famous authors and poets..

Those strong reds laid against those wintery colours….. works perfectly. Very beautiful Janis.

  • Thank you so much Jim…it’s why I plant shrubs that grow berries…I find them so beautiful in the snow….I have orange ones and pure white ones too…however the latter ones only look good when there is no snow…

i like tis Janis. the cold deep “greens and blues for the colors i choose”…these cold colors enhance the cold feel and the controlled blooms give it a touch of real class. nice job and well done.

  • Thank you so much for the lovely compliment Joel….I paint on soaking wet paper and create blooms on purpose….I love the dialogue between the paint and the paper…no other medium does that…for me watercolor is the best….
