Acrylic on Canvas

I have a single tomato plant in the garden…it is in a large pot with a cage and
it has borne fruit since May and is still fruiting prolifically…I keep them in a little wrought iron basket which is perfect for cherry tomatoes…
Nearby a medley of herbs grow in another container…I tucked some fresh basil in with the tomatoes to make a salad, and it looked so pretty in the sunlight through the window, I had to paint it…this is as close to a formal Still Life composition as I get

love the shine on the tomatoes Janis …the colourful contrasts and the idea of them in a basket…lovely still life painting…

  • Thank you so much Linda…this painting was hard to photograph…not sure why but I finally got a shot that was close to the colours in the original…

I posted and the went to bed. As I was saying, you were up to late ;-), but we are only 2 hours difference now not 3 like before. I started the day with your lovely grapes and ended with your “salad”. I continue to be amazed at the quality and abundance you create!! “prolific” and “inspiring” !! I wish I could see your works in person as I suspect they are even more lively and beautiful!:-) Have a great day!

  • In person they are more vibrant sometimes and softer other times…depends on the lighting the day I take the photo…this one was so difficult to photograph..I did it about 20 times and it’s close but no cigar….the colour is deeper in real life and you can see the canvas texture more which is something you can avoid in the way I paint these realistic works..very very thin glazes over and over wet on wet…I almost did not post this as it looked too bright, but my husband and other friends loved it, so I went ahead…
Thanks so much Leslie….very nice of you…
