The late shift is where you go to escape the noise of the city….where quiet contemplation and rumination are the order of the day…where talk show hosts voices are stilled….where tall ones are sipped slowly and equivocally…where half a plum in a blue bowl takes on a sort of beauty, the purple turning a slow black and the sound of brush strokes echo through the neighbourhood J.Z.

I paint in many different styles and feature a myriad of subject matter, which I show as individual collections….
I am inspired by the world interpreting it in brilliant colours, often influenced by the writings of famous authors and poets..

Fabulous, Janis. Love the strong sunlight on the apple half. Your knife and apples are superb! In fact, the apples look good enough to eat.
Thanks so much Frannie…are they reading as apples? I might have to retake then….

Great color and reflections inside the bowl…the collection makes a great set.
Thanks so much Cindy…I have been hanging some of these so buyers can see when they come to the studio and they look so great together I might just keep them for myself…

Immaculate manipulation of medium & I just love your colors. Quite a series you have now :)
When I want to do realism I use oils or acrylic as they stay put, even though I use basically the same wet in wet technique as I do with watercolors……thank you so much Edy…I’m happy you like it…

Amazing how you achieve the shines on the fruit and bowl in this lovely painting
Very very carefully stroke by stroke and small brushes…it’s the only way…wet in wet is the way I paint and I find it keeps it fresh….nothing kills a painting so much as dullness…thanks so much Susan…very nice of you…

Janis, your fruit is so good, it makes me want to paint better. It makes me want to eat too.
Tell me about it…I am eating fruit (which does not agree with me at all), as It’s so appetizing, and smells great on my painting table….thank you so much Shani…
