…A Neimus

In these latest market images, (see below), I am going for a realistic look but not a hyperreal one…
I have always found Cezanne’s food paintings incredibly inspiring and that is the feeling I wanted to convey here…
They are in acrylic as I want a very loose impression with a tactile feeling to it…a sense of being able to pluck them off the screen
A cello bag of peppers from Costco was very enticing to paint, so I succumbed and here it is
…Toronto, Ontario, Canada…

Acrylic on Canvas..

I paint in many different styles and feature a myriad of subject matter, which I show as individual collections….
I am inspired by the world interpreting it in brilliant colours, often influenced by the writings of famous authors and poets..

Looks like a photograph to me, Janis. I’m adjusting my glasses and it still does.
    Beautiful work.

  • I was once commissioned to paint a fake window in a client’s bathroom that had no windows at all…everybody commented on the light…lol…I even had ivy hanging down….seriously though I hope this still looks more like a painting than a photo once you look again…I don’t want to slip too much into hyperreal, though it’s easy to forget as it’s still part of my career even though I have scaled back on it…
Thanks so much Frannie….I’m really happy you like it…

Excellent work on this one. Love the plastic effect on the peppers

  • I was gong to take them out of the bag to paint them and I thought why not just do a painting of them in the bag…I’m really glad that you like them Corinne….thanks so much…

amazing effect you portray with your paintbrushes the way you have painted the plastic on top that softens the contents…stared at it for ages…!

  • They were still in the bag…I thought I would make an interesting Still Life to leave them there instead of the usual set up, though I will probably paint them in other ways too…the air holes were the most fun to figure out how to do….see my answer to Frannie….
Thanks so much Linda…I’m really happy you like it..

The realism of this painting is just so incredible Janis! I have a bag of those peppers in my fridge right now! And the colors are excellent!

  • Thanks so much Joanne….I keep on repeating myself that I hope it still looks like a painting though convincing enough to fool the eye…it was tempting to paint them just as they were in the bag instead of setting up the conventional Still Life…Costco is invaluable to painters, there is such richness there…

  • P.S. I put some of the small peppers in with the large ones to make a better composition….

Fantastic work, Janis! Look so real!

  • Thank you so much Lana….with paintings like this there is always a struggle to keep it convincing without getting too hyper real….keeping them just short of photographic and still painterly…
