The gardens are in full July bloom now, so it’s time to go back to the flower series for a bit…. I like to make my backgrounds abstract, and always have light gleaming through…this time I thought the idea again of leaf skeletons, with their lacy patterns against the sun, would be a nice contrast to the strong graphic shape of the Calla Lily…
I kept everything in the same tones of bluish greens and white…Toronto, Ontario, Canada…
Watercolour on Arches Not Paper
Unfurl your cloak of silken white
Reveal your secret wand upraised at length
And not unlike a star you shine serene
To exalt the autumn-tide with silver cups.
Shall we drink sweet nectar as we praise
The simple beauty revealed now in truth?
Or shall we simply sit and idly gaze
Into the eyes of love I have for you?
Calla lily soft and silken white
With open heart I pledge my love this night…Faerywolf

I paint in many different styles and feature a myriad of subject matter, which I show as individual collections….
I am inspired by the world interpreting it in brilliant colours, often influenced by the writings of famous authors and poets..

Oh Janis, this is so striking. I love the contrast between the solid flower and the lacy leaf/background.

Fabulous. I like th leaf skeletons in the background, and the way you keep the works nice and loose, something I have trouble doing.
Thank you so much Kerry…I get around the tightness issue by never drawing…I always paint the background by pouring paint on wet paper with no drawing or even outlines on it and create the shapes out of it…

lovely Janis…such a unique effect…I have recently taken a photo of exactly the same flowers in our garden intending to do a painting…so must do it soon :-)
Thank you so much Linda….this Calla is not in my garden, but in a friend’s terrace garden…I have no pictures but I saw them every time I visited…she had them in many colours….
I take lots of pictures of the flowers in my garden for the website I created for it, but I don’t seem to paint the ones I take…probably because I don’t want to make the paintings too real…I do the same thing with landscapes….
I guess I stare at the garden long enough every day to be able to create a reasonable semblance in the ones I do paint…. :))
