My idea for this new series of flowers is that they look jewel like…as a print or even a card, I want them to glow…in order to achieve this I have taken liberties with the colour, even adding pinpoints of light to add sparkle.. “Iris” grows in spring, in my back garden close to a climbing Enonymous, here in Toronto, Ontario…
Watercolour on Handmade Paper
Leaves of my life are now turning
bronze and copper and gold.
And there is the fragrance of burning
as nights grow longer and cold.
Life’s seasons are always recurrent
and winter no permanent thing..
Yet to me it is nothing abhorrent..
My life cannot cycle to spring.
The spirit for life which has sired me
shall take me again in its power
And composting all that is mortal
renew me in some shining flower ..Herbert H. McKusick
