I am crazy about Joan Senior…in 2008 I painted her in many guises… Jungle Joan and Carnival Joan were two of her many names…today as part of the current series, she is just DayLily…although she is considered to be a white daylily, there is a lot of yellow at her throat…I increased the yellow, leaving just the centre of the petals white…
She grows in the shade of a Katsura tree in my garden, in Toronto, Ontario, but that does not stop her from putting out bloom after bloom for several weeks, sometimes over ten per day…what a womanl!….
See her (white blooms) in my perennial border below…
Watercolour on Handmade Paper
And these memories and associations that our flowers give us are independent of seasons or of age.
They come to us as well in autumn and winter, in spring and summer; and as to age, the older we get the more, from the very nature of things, do these memories increase and multiply.
