This painting has many influences…I thought of the Ruth amid the “alien corn” from Keat’s “Ode to a Nightingale”…
The idea of being swept away is usually associated with waves and deep water, but my idea was waves of wheat or grass…I find them almost as scary as the sea…you can get lost in them……the grasses, or corn or wheat, move in rhythm with the wind and are tossed and blown by it…
One is lost amid all the trials of life, swept away by it’s responsibilities, caught up in it’s exigencies, trapped by necessity, back bent by the weight…allowing oneself to move with the flow often works for the best…soon the wind dies down…it must
