A song I love inspired this painting…it was composed and sung by my favourite singer/composer of all times, Paul Williams…I own all his music…he is not the greatest of singers, but he is a very moving one, and though many people have sung his songs, (notably Three Dog Night on this particular one), no one can interpret them like he does.

This series is all about peace and tranquility, so I keep the lines simple and express feelings through the use of vibrant colour and texture..

Whenever I need to leave it all behind
Or feel the need to get away…
I find a quiet place, far from the human race
Out in the country
Before the breathing air is gone
Before the sun is just a bright spot in the night-time
Out where the rivers like to run
I stand alone and take back something worth remembering
Whenever I feel them closing in on me
Or need a bit of room to move
When life becomes too fast, I find relief at last
Out in the country
P. Williams

I paint in many different styles and feature a myriad of subject matter, which I show as individual collections….
I am inspired by the world interpreting it in brilliant colours, often influenced by the writings of famous authors and poets..

This is just awesome. The color is penetrating! These works with the vermillion orange( ?) are rich and soo pleasing to me:-)

  • Thank you so much Leslie…the watercolour oranges I use are many and different…some I mix from yellows and reds, notably hansa and quinadricone, some are cadmium, some pyrrole…whatever strikes my fancy…
I paint many layers to get the intensity I want…however in between, the various layers may be other colours like blues and greens, which adds depth, enriches the colour, and prevents the areas from looking flat…

Love the painting, have always loved the song (Three Dog Night version) and now I even love Paul version. Enjoyed this on several levels Janis.

  • Although TDN are great, I love Pauls version best as he wrote it and sings it with such emotion…thank you so much for loving this series Jim…I appreciate it…

I have just finished two smaller acrylic paintings and timed myself on. I was able to finish them within two hours and enjoyed it immensely. I had to get on and browse and this one too is beautiful. My favourite bright colours.

  • Thank you so much Gloria…no matter how ill I am, and that is often, I have to paint, even if it’s a very small piece….there is nothing like it…
