Definitely moody is the style of this painting… I love to paint landscapes in this way…very soft and impressionistic with details only suggested and nothing defined, except for the birds in this particular one…this is my very first pastel landscape and it was completed today….although I have used pastel a few times in Still Life, I never got around to using them for landscape before today..
I enjoyed it and hope to do more as pastel really lends itself to impressionistic work, and the vivid colours are just what I like

Pastel on Arches Not Paper

Sailing the boat of silver light,
The moon-beauty is fast approaching me.
The sky is vibrating with sweet and melodious songs.
The birds are flying beyond the horizon
To an unknown land
…Sri Chinmoy

I paint in many different styles and feature a myriad of subject matter, which I show as individual collections….
I am inspired by the world interpreting it in brilliant colours, often influenced by the writings of famous authors and poets..

how wonderful Janis I love to lose myself in colour and this is a perfect piece to do this with !LIZ

  • Yes, I suddenly decided to do a pastel landscape which I had not done before…I used just regular watercolour paper, which lends itself to soft blending and impressionistic styles…thank you so much Liz…

beautiful and moody Janis… what pastels did you use…soft or hard? as you have created a lovely bold, colourful pastel painting.

  • Thanks so much Linda…I used soft pastels and I used the side of the crayons not the tips…for someone who rarely uses pastels I have an incredible array of them in all colours, sizes and shapes…I can’t resist buying them because of the colours, but they are really messy to use and the powder is toxic, so I tend to stick with my watercolour…however I do like the finished look of a pastel painting too, so I might do a few more as I have them out right now…
