Landscape...Light in the Forest... by

Light in the Forest" is a tribute to one of my favourite poets, William Wordsworth, specifically his poem, “Lines Written in Early Spring”, (shown below)…this semi-abstract landscape shows a glade in a forest, where the sun has penetrated…tiny spring flowers have sprung up in the light…
Wordsworth talks of the sweet thoughts such a sight brings to his mind and compares the state of nature to the state of man..i.e.
“If such be Nature’s holy plan,
Have I not reason to lament
What man has made of man
"?…

The words still ring true today

Watercolour on Arches Not Paper

I heard a thousand blended notes,
While in a grove I sat reclined,
In that sweet mood when pleasant thoughts
Bring sad thoughts to the mind
.

To her fair works did Nature link
The human soul that through me ran;
And much it grieved my heart to think
What man has made of man
.

Through primrose tufts, in that green bower,
The periwinkle trailed its wreaths;
And ’tis my faith that every flower
Enjoys the air it breathes
.

The birds around me hopped and played,
Their thoughts I cannot measure: —
But the least motion which they made,
It seemed a thrill of pleasure
.

The budding twigs spread out their fan,
To catch the breezy air;
And I must think, do all I can,
That there was pleasure there
.

If this belief from heaven be sent,
If such be Nature’s holy plan,
Have I not reason to lament
What man has made of man
? Wordsworth..“Lines Written in Early Spring”

    To me it is like a destination; walking through a dark forest and discovering light.

  • It can be all things to all people, that’s why I often make them a bit more abstract…you can place your own interpretation on it…thank you so much Mui-Ling…
