Still Life with Old Dandelion Stencil and Terracotta Pots by ©Janis Zroback

Still Life with Old Dandelion Stencil and Terracotta Pots by

A new addtion to the Still Life series, “Still Life with Old Dandelion Stencil and Terracotta Pots” pays tribute to the lovely art of stenciling that experienced a resurgence in the 80s then got overexposed and trite…well know in Europe for centuries, in North America itinerant stencillors made a good living going from town to town with their tools…evidence of their beautiful work still remains today and is shown in museums around the world
I chose to infuse this painting with the flavour of an old garden room, where the plaster has fallen off and the single stencil though greatly worn with age still looks beautiful…the terracotta pots which are so delightful to paint, add to the feeling of age…I have a number of these ancient pots, and though they are still under wraps right now, I know them so well I think I can reproduce them in my sleep

Art is long and time is fleeting…

I paint in many different styles and feature a myriad of subject matter, which I show as individual collections….
I am inspired by the world interpreting it in brilliant colours, often influenced by the writings of famous authors and poets..

    Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
    Is our destined end or way;
    But to act, that each to-morrow
    Find us farther than to-day

    Another amazing painting……Janis! Your use of colors are just outstanding !!Wtg

  • What a lovely comment Carla…I was glad to add another to this particular series today…I had three paintings going at once…I think I might have to reshoot this one, now that I look at it here…the wall cracks aren’t showing very clearly…I have to use another setting on the camera…it looked fine at home, but on the site here it’s pale…

    Let us, then, be up and doing,
    With a heart for any fate;
    Still achieving, still pursuing,
    Learn to labor and to wait

    lovely textured feel to this one Janis…I do like the crack effect in the wall, the beautiful golden colours and the whole composition..just perfect

  • I still think I have to retake the photo…it’s a little too light…the painting is a bit darker and the cracks show up more…I did not notice it till it was posted…thank you so much Linda…
