The Sentinels by ©Janis Zroback

The Sentinels" is part of the Winter Collection… _we barricade our doors and guard our lives every day, but storms come and go regardless of locks…so we pray for the sun, and cry relief relief*…A north western Ontario forest…

Watercolour on Fabriano Artistico Hot Pressed Paper..

They stand as sentinels against azure storms
Assured as most storms of life, it’s supposed
Although bared of dress, although naked as jays,
Winter’s trees umbrella from worst those
Emptied of warmth.. why stand themselves here?
None rest beneath, cold is this grayness,
Determined, enduring Hail’s hiss, they stay
Limbs upturned, beg the sun from her shyness…
These brown-barked sentinels recall blue-green days before
With soft nests of down in lofty leaved reaches
Where bodies under there sparkled in prisms
When leaf-scattered-light danced on now barren benches..
They stand as sentinels against azure storms
…Barbara Attaway

I paint in many different styles and feature a myriad of subject matter, which I show as individual collections….
I am inspired by the world interpreting it in brilliant colours, often influenced by the writings of famous authors and poets..

there is a rumor it might snow here tomorrow..
but snowing here means i might be able to spot something floating about before melting on impact with the ground lol

    Very pretty.

  • We’ve been getting it on and off, but as we’re in the city it won’t stick around till January…then I can do some really frozen paintings…thank you Angie…

This is beautiful, Janis. It looks like the celebration of snow. Just in time for the arrival of a snow storm in my part of the country.Supposed to arrive Friday or Saturday. Snow is always an exciting event here as it rarely happens.

  • I wish I could say that about this city…we get five solid months of it, so I paint a lot of winter scenes…I really enjoy painting winter in all it’s glories, safely from my warm studio…let it snow… I’ll just stay in and paint it…
I’m glad you like the painting Marjorie…thanks so much.

Now I can really feel the chill in this! the misty look of the snow flakes is so delicately done, along with the beautiful pastel colours.

  • It’s much colder now, so it’s creeping into my paintings…I have to do a few more tropical ones to counteract it… :))
I’m so glad you like it..thanks so much Bev…
