Rosie at the Gala" is part of the Portfolio Collection, a series of Still Life paintings of fruit on an Abstract Fantasy Landscape background…every single painting is totally different from all the others…this particular piece also illustrates my story by the same name…you can read it in my writing HERE

It was the night of The Gala…..a grand party, in the large reception room open to the air, with ball gowns, long gloves and jewels in our hair….we were sure that we all would meet “the right one” there..
Floating silk shawls, in myriads of colours, wrapped slight, young shoulders as we sat out in the night air, waiting for our partners to claim us for the dance
….excerpt from Rosie at the Gala…Janis Zroback

I paint in many different styles and feature a myriad of subject matter, which I show as individual collections….
I am inspired by the world interpreting it in brilliant colours, often influenced by the writings of famous authors and poets..

It ’s the light reflections that really gives these that 3D feel. Great work, you already know I like this series.

  • I love doing this series, though each painting takes so long from concept to drawing then painting…the backgrounds are planned in the drawing stage, but I have no idea what they will look like till they’re completely finished…they are painted first, then the fruit, then back to the landscape, for finishing touches…I put no sealant unless a buyer wants one, as I like the chalkiness of the flat background against the sheen of the fruit…I have the fruit in front of me as I paint, until they start to shrivel, but by then I’ve got it…

And yes, your studio puts my back patio table to shame…

  • Oh dear….I don’t want to have that effect…you see I can’t really feel comfortable unless everything is fairly organized…

wow janis..that IS the neatest studio that I’ve ever seen..I have a friend who feels the same way..she says that she can’t work unless her surrounds are neat and tidy..
I’ll post some pics soon of my working areas..hhhha!!/.. once you get over the shock you’ll laugh ..OK

your studio is lovely ..is it a room to yourself..or just a corner..?

  • I am very lucky as I have one whole floor of the house to myself for writing, painting, etc…it comprises two libraries, one where I do most of the work on the computer and a third room (smaller), the one in the picture, for painting…then 2 separate storage rooms, and a large storage cupboard which you can just see in the picture above…
I have three large painting tables and two desks and two computers and printers, plus bookcases line all the walls in all the rooms, and they are all packed from top to bottom with books..paintings are displayed above them…daylight bulbs, and incandescent lamps are everywhere so I can take good photos..the room where I paint is stocked with everything for any kind of work I might decided to do, so it’s like an art supply store…
I gues we all work under different circumstances, but this works for me…
