“Still Life with Sunflowers” is part of the Still Life Series and the Semi Surreal and Texture collection

Watercolour on Gessoed 300 lb Arches Paper..

August rushes by like desert rainfall,
A flood of frenzied upheaval,
But still catching me unprepared.
Like a match flame
Bursting on the scene,
Heat and haze of crimson sunsets.
Like a dream
Of moon and dark barely recalled,
A moment,
Shadows caught in a blink.
Like a quick kiss;
One wishes for more
But it suddenly turns to leave,
Dragging summer away
…..El. M. Taylor

I paint in many different styles and feature a myriad of subject matter, which I show as individual collections….
I am inspired by the world interpreting it in brilliant colours, often influenced by the writings of famous authors and poets..

What did you do Janis….WOW this is wonderful, i think Gesso helps a lot to become 3d.
Light and shadow oneself, are a piece of art.
Vivid, captivate, and so forth, i like it very much.
The right side is beautiful, cause the heart beat.

  • Thanks Rachel…the texture on paper as it comes, is never enough for me so I add more…the watercolour paint runs off, and I let it, and add more…the modelling results from just painting light and shadow where it’s needed…a bit of photorealism added to a little surrealism and there you have it…if you look closely there are many pear shapes lying up and down around the more prominent ones…I hope you can see them…I’m so glad you like it…

  • I mean’t to add that the negative shapes are all pear shaped as well…

I love the way you balance the warm with the cold colors and of course your excellent use of shadow and light! Lovely image! I particularly like that pear that is not in line with the others. Bring on the pears! Since viewing your work Janis, I have noticed them at the grocery store and brought them home more often! lol! Guess you are even influencing my fruit choices!!!!:-)

  • Haha Joanne, that’s a first for my work on RB…
I’ve had people start cooking because of the recipes on my website, and they have bought Fuji, Ambrosia, and Mutsu apples because I featured them so often…
There are many pears in the picture..more than first appears…
