Double city
contemplating your unquiet image
in the liquid mirror where like you
I see myself
desolate shell on the shore
abandoned
you oblivious of your pearly heart
I of the sea’s voice
..P Bruna

So much of the city is in ruins, yet people live with the crumbling walls broken windows and doors, seemingly unconcerned with the decrepitude that surrounds them…there is a kind of majesty in the decaying buildings…it’s magic has them in thrall…
Nighttime the ruins of the city disappear, only the slight figure of the gondolier, shows in the half light

Janis, this is very powerful; it stirs the senses. I can hear the lap-lap-lap of the water, smell the slightest trace of dank. Mystery and beauty: marvelous combination. Love the words, too.

  • Thanks so much for the lovely comment Robin…I too can hear that lap of the water and hoped others would hear it as well…

My first thoughts on looking at the work, and seeing your title, were abandoned. And now I read this in your poetic description. I love the curve of the building on the right, echoed by the curve of the gondola bow and the light which beckons.

  • Thank you so much Frannie…there is so much to this city, so much to explore in painting, that is so exciting…
I just posted one to my other gallery that I might publish here later on..I’m really happy you are enjoying it…
