Gray, gray sands at evening,
When haunting voices blow
Over twilight-faded water
From trees of long ago,
Hushed by the drifting silence
As by eternal snow
.

O grass, flowers, trees unfruitful,
Caught while your sun was high,
Buried deep in the sand-dune’s keep,
Is all of life gone by?
Can a springing bough lift your glory now
And give it back to the sky
? J.N. Bangs 1860

Sand dunes in winter at the Beaches in Toronto..Watercolour on Arches Not Paper..

I paint in many different styles and feature a myriad of subject matter, which I show as individual collections….
I am inspired by the world interpreting it in brilliant colours, often influenced by the writings of famous authors and poets..

This is very beautiful, Janis, with its contrast of blue and russet, lavender and gold. I love the ocean in winter. It’s only the birds and friends who love the wind.

  • Lovely of you to say so Frannie…thank you so much…

Very nice flow to this. I can hear the birds as they fly in to shore.

  • Thanks so much Dot…yes they are screaming as they often do in winter, desperate for food..

Once again, Janis, I am full of admiration for your ability to translate words into images, which then go on to create their own flow of emotions. :)george

Love how even in the cold snowy winter, your grass is so vibrantly coloured, and those colours also get reflected in the snow – unless that is supposed to be sand. But nevertheless, as the poem expresses, nature does its best to stay high even in the harshness.

  • Both snow and sand but mostly snow…I like to use colour even on the darkest days..I plan to do more work reflecting the Beaches area…fascinating to see winter on e beach…thanks so much MuiLing..
