Abstract...A Conjunction of Elements

EDT…it’s the edge of winter…snow, wet, dark, light, night, day…a time when S.A.D is pre-eminent…it takes time to adjust, and some wait in limbo for EDT in March, but some embrace the changes…I don’t like the dark that sets in so early, so I have daylight bulbs in all my lamps…six weeks from now it’s the solstice and we start looking forward to lighter days Thomas Hood expresses it beautifully for us

No sun-no moon!-no noon!
No morn
No dawn-no dusk-no proper time of day--no earthly view—
No sky
No distance looking blue ..
No road-no street-
No “t’other side the way”--
No end to any Row
No indications where the Crescents go ..
No top to any steeple--
No recognitions of familiar people
No courtesies for showing ‘em—
No knowing ‘em!
No mail-no post-
No news from any foreign coast--no ring-
No parkno afternoon gentility-
No company—no nobility ..
No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,
No comfortable feel in any member—
No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds,
November!...Thomas Hood

There will be more images of my impressions of winter coming along as the season develops…
I paint even more in winter, believe it or not…I see winter in colour..lots of colour…and now as we get darker days with mixtures of all kinds of weather, snow mixed with rain, then sun, and then dark, sometimes all in one day, I thought that a painting to reflect the way I felt about it would be a good thing…
I’m really pleased you like it…I was not sure how it would be received, so I’m very happy at the response…thank you so much Leslie…

Gorgeous Janis! The bright colors speak hope to me and energize me instead of the S.A.D. that impacts me every late fall and winter.
Janis Zroback replied 20 days ago
A lot of people suffer from S.A.D….I have not experienced it, but I must say I don’t like the feeling I get at 4 p.m., when it starts to get dark…I place day light bulbs all over the house and my studio alone has 6 of them…they help a lot…
I paint even more in winter…I turn all the lights on and ignore the weather..
Thanks so much Lynn…glad you like it,,,

Hi Janis. I just discovered your work as I am new to RB. I am drawn to most every piece in your portfolio. The amazing colors, textures and light make me very happy. But, it was your writings that touched on a deeper level. I am impressed by the way you think. Especially your thoughts on mediocrity. I feel I will learn much from you. You are a favorite!
Janis Zroback replied 7 days ago
How wonderful!!...I am immensely flattered that you found my work resonates with you…thank you so much Lisa for letting me know…I post regularly, so keep checking back…
