Vortex..The Sea of Time & Space

The nature of infinity is this: That every thing has its
Own Vortex; and when once a traveller thro Eternity.
“Has passd that Vortex, he percieves it roll backward behind”
“His path, into a globe itself infolding; like a sun:”
“Or like a moon, or like a universe of starry majesty,”
While he keeps onwards in his wondrous journey on the earth
“Or like a human form, a friend with whom he livd benevolent.”
As the eye of man views both the east & west encompassing
“Its vortex; and the north & south, with all their starry host;”
Also the rising sun & setting moon he views surrounding
His corn-fields and his valleys of five hundred acres square.
“Thus is the earth one infinite plane, and not as apparent”
To the weak traveller confin’d beneath the moony shade.
“Thus is the heaven a vortex passd already, and the earth”
A vortex not yet pass’d by the traveller thro’ Eternity..
The Sea of Time & Space thundered aloud
“Against the rock, which was inwrapped with the weeds of death”
“Hovering over the cold bosom, in its vortex Milton bent down”
“To the bosom of death, what was underneath soon seemed above.”
A cloudy heaven mingled with stormy seas in loudest ruin;
“But as a wintry globe descends precipitant thro’ Beulah bursting,”
With thunders loud and terrible: so Miltons shadow fell
Precipitant loud thundering into the Sea of Time & Space.
”...excerpted from Section 2…”Milton” by William Blake

Sea and Sky meet in thunderous array….Inspired by the mystical writing of William Blake, “who was considered mad by contemporaries for his idiosyncratic views, but held in high regard by later critics for his expressiveness and creativity, and for the philosophical and mystical undercurrents within his work”.....
This piece is also influenced by the style of William Turner, “considered a controversial figure in his day, Turner is now regarded as the artist who elevated landscape painting to an eminence rivalling history painting. Although renowned for his oil paintings, Turner is also one of the greatest masters of British watercolour landscape painting. He is commonly known as “the painter of light

    Wonderful, Janis ! I love these colours !!! :)))

  • Janis Zroback replied

Thank you so much Stephanie…so do I…Turner used more vivid colours in most of his works, but many have softened with age…I chose to use the antique colours…they add more authenticity I think…

It’s almost tactile isn’t it? I almost drowned as a child …I remember the green water closing over my head as I sank deeper and deeper…this reminds me of that time…my nightmares after that was of dying in a tidal wave…those fears are gone now, but just in case they ever come back, I am glad there are no waves here in this northern city…
