...what’s this an homage to? Sorry for the inconvenience but I don’t see it in the description. Please tell us and resubmit.
Janis Zroback replied
.I am paying homage to the series of books where the main character is Mma Ramotswe…she drinks a lot of tea…it is a very popular series, that is now also on HBO….
LeighAth
is it to Mma Ramotswe?...
Janis Zroback replied
Yes it is…she loves cakes….
DanaMS
Wonderful job! And love that marlbleish background!
Janis Zroback replied
The Garage floor romanticized….I did not want to make it too literal with oil spills so I just did the cracks and made it look like marble…thanks so much Dana…
LeighAth

Estelle O'Brien
I just adore Mme Ramotswe…..I saw a great interview with Alexander MacCall Smith last week too…just the best series…and this painting is excellenty reminiscent! I love the books and sometimes I get them out of the library in talking book form, which is such fun. Great work Janis.
Janis Zroback replied
I love her too and the HBO series is absolutely wonderful…they have paid close attention to detail and it’s flawless…
I just bought the 10th book in the series and I am saving it to read on holiday as it’s perfect for that…I have met Smith in person and he signed a bunch of my books…what a lovely person…I also read his other series…he is so prolific…
I’m really pleased you like the painting and that you find it does justice to the stories…thank you so much Estelle…
GEORGE SANDERSON
Another Brilliant addition to the series, Janis,
Keep up the great work !!!

it’s lovely, but the book reference is lost on me :)
Janis Zroback replied
The Series of books called The No1 Ladies Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith, also now seen on HBO…best to read the books before seeing the T.V. version, which was created by Pollack and Minghella before they died last year… see WIKI
Janis Zroback replied
Thank you so much Amy…

“Wayward daughters. Missing husbands. Philandering partners. Curious conmen. If you’ve got an apparently insoluble problem, then pay a visit to Precious Ramotswe, Botswana’s finest – and only – female private detective. Her methods may be unconventional but she’s got warmth, wit and canny intuition on her side, not to mention her friend Mr J. L. B. Matekoni, proprietor of Tlokweng Road Speedy Motors. Precious is going to need them all as she sets out on the pitfall-strewn trail of a missing child.”..Readingroom.com

Ahh, now i got it. I read 1 or 2 of his books (but not that series), hated them, way too charming and heartwarming and endearing for me! (I love good crime fiction, but with a lot more bite!). But i still love the painting.
Janis Zroback replied
They are perfect for reading during the holidays, which is when I read them and you can get easily hooked as the characters are so colourful and I learn’t a lot about African culture in Botswana…
I can take edgy if it’s not self indulgent and gratuitous, something I find so prevalent in contemporary writing…as an Eng Lit. graduate I am really critical…I no longer read crime fiction as I used to in my 20s…I don’t find the writing clever enough…they are too plot driven….you must join us on GoodReads…
mingtees
What’s GoodReads? I read a book a day on average. For top notch crime fiction – try anything published by SOHO Crime. It’s the best crime fiction from authors and locations all over the world, and not thrillers or suspense either.

See my reply below…I hit the wrong button…

kjgordon
Really Botswana…huh!
Janis Zroback replied
Yes it’s inspired by a series of books…the first is called the “No 1 Ladies Detective Agency” next door to the office of the agency is Speedy Motors…they all drink tea together….I took some artistic and placed the tea on the floor of the garage…
Janis Zroback replied
See above…scroll up…

This is great; it looks like my late father’s work bench, but with much richer colours and textures. Haven’t read that series yet, although I like the Sunday Philosophy Club series. I love the name of the medium: Saunders Not Paper; yes but what IS it? Reminded me of Not the Nine o’clock News.
Janis Zroback replied
It means it is Not Hot pressed…paper comes in Hot Pressed Not or Cold Pressed and Rough…Cold pressed is sometimes referred to as CP, but in Europe it’s referred to as Not…
I also like the Sunday Philosophy club, the 44 Scotland St, series and the No1 Ladies Detective series…I just read his latest…La’s Orchestra saves the World…
I’m so happy this painting brings back good memories…that’s what it’s all about isn’t it?
Marion Chapman
Janis Zroback replied
