Door #4

Door #4

Door #4” is part of the Collection “Everyday Things” and is of course the fourth door…like Doors 1 and 2, it is not a painting, but a drawing, this time in Conte crayon…I love door knockers and refuse to add a bell to my front door…I polish mine so that it shines a welcome to all, but I made this one a bit oxidized, a little verdigrised to add some texture and interest to the painting…I never want to make it too literal...

Conte crayon drawing on Clayboard

Knock with tremor..
These are Caesars..
Should they be at Home
Flee as if you trod unthinking
On the Foot of Doom

These receded to accostal
Centuries ago..
Should they rend you with “How are you”
What have you to show
? E. Dickinson

will look forward to seeing your new art as always….we were hanging more of my paintings up last night and hubby accidentally knocked one of my large paintings off the wall….it landed on his head and smashed the glass. he is ok but it went everywhere..we were trying to organise my little space! tray for pastels is such a fab. idea!

  • Janis Zroback replied

I hope your husband is really all right…I was walking downstairs some years ago carrying a large framed poster, when I tripped and fell, the picture smashed and glass was sticking out of me like a porcupine….
It’s a wooden tray with a drawer underneath that slides out…the drawer which is meant for tea bags, is divided into compartments that are perfect for pastels…I lined it with swiffer cloths which hold them in place…I need several of them to hold the whole collection…so will get some more….there are containers sold to artist for pastels, but they are quite expensive…these are a good substitute…

  • Linda Callaghan

    Linda Callaghan

he is ok Janis thanks…was thinking I might upload a photo of my ‘little area’ and you can see or I could email to you..will have to buy another frame tho. but better that than replacing hubby :-D Our german shepherd was in the same room so I had to make sure he did not move and get glass in his paws..oh dear the trials and tribulations of life! glad you are ok and will seek out an altlernative to keepmy pastels handy and clean!

  • Janis Zroback replied

I’m glad to hear he is all right, and I would love to see your space…you can email it to me if you prefer…

And doors… well doors are symbolic of so many things.

  • Janis Zroback replied

Yes they are symbolic of many things and in deconstructiing them I want to evoke emotion in the viewers, in addition to celebrating the workmanship of the various parts…thank you so much Pip, for your insightful comment…
