Time on MY Hands

Time on MY Hands” is a tongue in cheek title, as I never ever have time on my hands.. all too soon we have too much time

Watercolour on Arches Not Paper…

Featured in The Outsiders..Florals Still Life, Pastels, Watercolour Paintings…

I was unrealised;
Therefore
I faded from the merciless memory of Time
.

I was unrevealed;
Therefore
I faded from the unsympathetic memory of Time
.

I was unmanifested;
Therefore
I faded from the indifferent memory of Time
.

BUT NOW

Time shakes hands with me,
Time dines with me,
Time dances with me

    Orla Cahill

Super work Janis. You are so talented with the use of colour. :)

  • Janis Zroback replied

Thank you so much Orla… I love using lots of color, and normally watercolors done in paler colors…. experimenting with a doing it in deep deep tones is a lot of fun…. I’m really happy with the results and plan to do more…

    Faith Donovan

    Outstanding work Janis! Sooooo beautiful!

  • Janis Zroback replied

I’m really pleased with this watercolor Faith…. I like using dark rich tones and normally I would only use them in an acrylic painting…. I think I’m going to do more of these…I was just looking at the original and deciding that as I like it so much, I’m going to keep it and not put it up for sale.. :))
Thank you so much… I’m glad you like it…

  • Tama Blough

    Tama Blough

A lovely classic! Your colors are amazingly intense.

  • Janis Zroback replied

I use Winsor Newton pigments and have done so from the very beginning…Arches paper is my favorite paper and though I have used others, I think it gives the best results… colors stay brilliant, as there is so much sizing in the paper…. whenever I teach painting, I tell my students to spend most of their budget on the paper first, then buy the best paint their budget would allow, finally get the best brushes… but the paper is the thing…
Thank you so much, Tama…. I’m happy you like it…

  • Janis Zroback replied

I’m so glad you like it Linda…I am planning to do more dark watercolours like this one…I love the effect of light against the very dark background…thank you so much…

I’ve gotten really wonderful results with Twinrocker paper – but it is SPENDY. I use Arches pretty exclusively.

  • Janis Zroback replied

I can’t get Twinrocker here…I would have to order it through the art store or on the net…the stores here stock only what the artists want, and anything else is a special order…but I love the Arches, so I use it the most…it’s really expensive too…they all are…

    There
    Always
    Arrives
    In all of
    Our lives
    A joyous
    Moment of
    Sweet silence
    Which notifies
    It is time to blend
    Into the vast horizon
Of the palette painting a days end
And there we find again our gentle loving eyes
Waiting as these divine peaceful skies
Of the eternal sunrise that is just
    Around the bend

It’s amazing to me how the right amount of reflected light can truly make a painting work. You demonstrated this all too well in this work of art. Your colors are so rich, it gives it a very classical feel. Janis, both poetry and painting are so beautiful.

  • Janis Zroback replied

The classical feeling was exactly what I set out to create…I don’t usually paint quite this dark in watercolour, it’s much easier to do that in acrylic, as watercolor can easily get muddy if you aren’t careful….but the times I have done it have been so satisfying, I plan to do more..
I’m really pleased that you like it Jim…thank you so much..

    sneha

as usual brillient!!! i love the way u handle colors!! they are always bright and fresh!

  • Janis Zroback replied

Thank you for your lovely comment…with watercolour the difficulty lies in keeping it fresh…I tend to paint wet in wet a lot, in many transparent layers…

    Time present and time past
Are both perhaps present in time future,
And time future contained in time past.

    Holly Cawfield

Ohhhh!!!! This is a GREAT composition Janis! The light coming in on the right is beautifully done and your colours are wonderfully rich and vibrant. I love the way you’ve done the leaves….but then I love the way you’ve done the whole thing!! :-)

  • Janis Zroback replied

I guess by now you’ve seen that I paint differently with every series I do, but the one thing I try to avoid is hyperrealism…I have done it in the past, but felt it really was not what I want to convey in the paintings…I want to leave something for the viewer…in watercolour, this painting comes closest to reality…in the portfolio collection, which is acrylic, the fruit are very real looking, but the background is abstract…but, what’s real in my art, is that there is something to suit all tastes, and I feel that is what selling prints and cards are all about…
Commissioned work though is a totally different matter…then I do what the buyer wants… :))
I’m terribly pleased you like my work Holly…you are incredibly talented….thank you so much for your lovely comment.
