yes this range of the tropical ones are super..and Plus I love the tropics and you capture the moods and feeling so well in this series..well done..!

and Yes I’m up so early.. with such a lot to do today ..wow janis It’s like getting ready for an exhibition here ..all these ones for “Gods kitchen”..we have wiring happening and paint and glue..revamping old frames and fixing any bits on the paintings that might need fixing..and making some frames (never easy)..and all sorts of things happening to get the paintings ready..
it’s only been a week ..but they want them now !!..we were meant to have another week to get ready..hha!!

anyways..It’s just like having my own showing at a gallery .. and it’s a bit stressful ..but i t’s all looking good now..we are almost ready to take at least 15 paintings with more to came later ..all good ..all stress..and all funny ..it’s just what we need at this time of year ..LOL
when we are meant to be doing the christmas thing !!
but I’m hoping they will all look good when we hang them up in the old church there.

Thanks Janis..just delete this chatter if you want to ..OK

    and well done once again..
    xxooo

You must take some wide angle pictures of the restaurant with your pictures hanging on the walls and post them in your journal for us to see…I can’t wait.

fabulous Janis – astounds me how you manipulate the colours to go just where you want them to – striking vibrant and beautiful (if you have a free moment which I know you prob. wont can you bubblemail me with how you start and finish one of your watercolours like this ?? I would love to give it a go one day) if not no worries :-) love this one

  • Janis Zroback replied

Basically it’s all about controlling the medium…I work on wet paper and I drop in colour and let it flow and run where I want it to, saving the whites and then use sable brushes with water to paint the picture..if you do it at the right moments you have full control, but I also like to let it do it’s own thing at times, so I can get nice surprises along the way…it has to be the best paint, paper and brushes to get the right effects…synthetic brushes don’t hold enough paint or water and the cheper paper won’t react properly…the good pigments in W/N give vivid results…a lot of practice with these three important tools and you’re off to the races…

may give one a go in the new year Janis….have to get the better paints first but too much money going out the door this time of the year…I am always wondering how you get the flecks of colour if they are added on top of the underneath dried or wet layers? and if salt is used?

  • Janis Zroback replied

No I never use salt…I use water always…

The whole tropics series is splendid but you really got me with this one. Perhaps the sweep of leaves at an unexpected angle, of that red highliting the veins of the leaves….

  • Janis Zroback replied

Believe it or not, the veins in this plant are really red, and there are many variations of the same species…on each plant the leaves can vary a lot with the markings changing from leaf to leaf…it makes it very excitng to paint…I’m really pleased you like it Joanne…thank you so much.
