  • Janis Zroback replied

Welcome Josh…thank you so much…I think both the story and the subject matter, call for violent contrasts…I’m glad you like it.

beautiful painting. I love everything about this, the brush strokes, the freedom, the expression, the movement, the vibrant colors, the textures in the watercolor. great work

  • Janis Zroback replied

What a wonderful compliment John!!...I am so pleased that it resonated with you, even with the snake in the grass…
I love to paint watercolour very free and loose, or wet and wild, but keeping full control throughout the whole process of painting…it’s a tug of war and dialogue going on between us all the time, but it’s also very exhilarating…thank you so much…

great colors…You hit a nerve of the sugar cane fields being burned….........ah the aroma…....

  • Janis Zroback replied

I wanted to give the essence of both stages in the life of the cane, and a litle bit of sinister stuff with the haiku poem I wrote…when I was growing up the cane cutters wore high rubber boots for that very reason…I also echoed a bit of that colour in the cane itself…glad you like it.
Note: I love to eat sugar cane too….

brilliant colours Janis – dont know how you manage to control those watercolours and get such vibrancy but you do! fab work

  • Janis Zroback replied

Just knowing when to let them go and when to stop….it’s a matter of knowing how it works…how much paint to put on the paper and how wet or dry to have the brushes….hard to explain without your being here to see a demo..
Glad you like it…thanks so much Linda…

sounds confusing – I expect practice practice and practice would help me understand more…one day when retired I can play with my paints all day!! :-)

  • Janis Zroback replied

That’s exactly it…a lot of practice and keeping notes of what you did…

  • GEORGE SANDERSON

    GEORGE SANDERSON

Such bold use of colour, the page is aflame !

  • Janis Zroback replied

Thank you so much George…I wanted to get the essence of the cane at different stages, and at a certain point they are burned…hence the orange colours…
