That’s a wonderful tribute Nicole….I try to make the painting say a little more that just what you see on the surface, without resorting to preaching…it gives the viewers a glimpse into my mind and also gives them a jumping off point before they can engage in their own dialogue with the painting…I’m so pleased this resonated with you…thank you so much for contributing your insight.

How did you get the paint to crack, dried quickly with a small hair dryer?

I have added some of the other paintings done in a similar style to the right…I use many different techniques to achieve that age and cracks…while experimenting over the years I have found that good cracking is dependant on the weather outside, plus the humidity and temperature in the studio…a heat gun is helpful sometimes, but layering mediums with different drying times can also work.

I love the cracked effect. Reading your comments, I’d say that over here in England we’d need a heat gun … no use relying on our weather :)

Even with a heat gun, if the weather is very humid the cracking will be uncontrollable… it would be hard to control the quality…you have to wait for a fairly dry day…I’m glad you like it…thanks so much.
