Winter...Drift

Drift” is part of the Winter collection..this is a metaphor for not only seasons changing, but of life passing and age mourning the loss of youth…there is always so much more to say about winter than people who don’t experience it may know…no wonder the Inuit have so many different words for snow…it can be a metaphor for age and unhappiness…”now is our winter of discontent”...but a lot of good things happen in winter too…wood fires and hot chocolate among them…it is a time to slow down, reflect and take stock, and underneath it, all life is quietly waiting for the warmth of spring
Watercolour on Arches Paper…
I saw you as a beloved, phantom child
Beyond all years or time’s reckoning,
And would have given all that I am
To possess your eyes.
Damn time’s insolence
To enumerate all the years I never
noticed.
Now I must wonder
About the passing of years
And the counting of hours,
Wonder
If a gnarled tree
Can love Spring’s flowers J.Kavanaugh

All I know is that this old gnarled tree still loves Spring’s flowers. LOL Of course he’s married and all he can do is enjoy their beauty, he can’t pick any. Love the blues in the snow. This is a beautiful work Janis.
Janis Zroback replied
I’m so pleased you like it Jim….I so love painting winter and I have about five months to paint all the different aspects of it…I was too late today to take a picture of a barberry with snow on every berry in my garden today…by the time I went out again, the snow had fallen off…I will leave my camera in the hall from now on….thanks so much.
Solomon Walker
Very nice Janis. The winter is definitely upon us now, especially here in the suburbs.
Janis Zroback replied
We had to get the snowblower out this morning, which is unusual for us downtown at this time of year…most of it has melted now, but there’s more on the way…thanks so much Solomon.

I never get tired of looking at your work Janis! It always moves me! I wish sometimes that I could write a new dictionary of adjectives to use because like in this instance all I can think of saying is beautiful! The angle of the snowbank and the tree is truly inspired as is the lines of highlight in the snow!
