Portfolio...Rosie at the Gala

Rosie at the Gala” is part of the Portfolio Collection, a series of Still Life paintings of fruit on an Abstract Fantasy Landscape background…every single painting is totally different from all the others…this particular piece also illustrates my story by the same name…you can read it in my writing HERE

Acrylic on Canvas…original is also for sale…

It was the night of The Gala…..a grand party, in the large reception room open to the air, with ball gowns, long gloves and jewels in our hair….we were sure that we all would meet “the right one” there.

Floating silk shawls, in myriads of colours, wrapped slight, young shoulders as we sat out in the night air, waiting for our partners to claim us for the dance....excerpt from Rosie at the Gala…Janis Zroback

It ’s the light reflections that really gives these that 3D feel. Great work, you already know I like this series.

I love doing this series, though each painting takes so long from concept to drawing then painting…the backgrounds are planned in the drawing stage, but I have no idea what they will look like till they’re completely finished…they are painted first, then the fruit, then back to the landscape, for finishing touches…I put no sealant unless a buyer wants one, as I like the chalkiness of the flat background against the sheen of the fruit…I have the fruit in front of me as I paint, until they start to shrivel, but by then I’ve got it…

I am very lucky as I have one whole floor of the house to myself for writing, painting, etc…it comprises two libraries, one where I do most of the work on the computer and a third room (smaller), the one in the picture, for painting…then 2 separate storage rooms, and a large storage cupboard which you can just see in the picture above…
I have three large painting tables and two desks and two computers and printers, plus bookcases line all the walls in all the rooms, and they are all packed from top to bottom with books..paintings are displayed above them…daylight bulbs, and incandescent lamps are everywhere so I can take good photos..the room where I paint is stocked with everything for any kind of work I might decided to do, so it’s like an art supply store…
I gues we all work under different circumstances, but this works for me…

Well who is the lucky lady..LOL
I really envy you your whole floor of the house….
sorry ..but I envy anyone who can say that they have their own space.. and their own studio

    and this
    quote

“the room where I paint is stocked with everything for any kind of work I might decided to do, so it’s like an art supply store… “

..well I think I’d love that room janis..wooooeeee!!.. I’d be like a kid in a lolly shop

I feel that way, knowing I can get up any day and what ever I decided to do, I have the supplies for it…I have collected these supplies, tools, etc. for a number of years and now have everything my painting heart could desire…all women deserve a room of their own and should have it….

  • Janis Zroback

I agree absolutely janis..that all women should have a room/space of their own..we deserve it..we need it..and it’s a crime and sin to not give women the space so that they can be creative..

  • Janis Zroback

Do get Virginia Woolf’s book called “A Room of One’s Own”...you should read it…in any case your work is so much like that period in art, that she may have been writing that book just for you…
Here is a description..it is meant for women who write, but it could easily be about women who paint or do anything creative…

“During the 1920’s women writing literature were still struggling for a voice without prejudice. Virginia Woolf emerged as one of the first feminist voices ready to speak out against the silenced history of women writers and historians. In this book she argues that any woman serious about writing must have 500 pounds per year, and a room of her own in which to capture a few moments of silence and restore her voice back to power without the pull of all her “womanly” responsibilities”.
